Sorry for the bad title. Twas a tricky one to fit in the subject line without leaving the dreaded cliffhanger title.

Although Jennings still didn't come out and light it up in the passing game, you have to admit the offense looked better in terms of play calling and execution. I realize aTm's defense is horrid, but Notre Dame isn't necessarily world beaters either. A good offensive outing will be great for the young guy's confidence, and I believe it would help shift the narrative on this board during the offseason.

CSB, I know.

But this board needs some positivity.

There can never be positivity on this board.

I think that offense could work well for us moving forward. It needs a little cleaning up in the red zone, but I'd like to see us use that type of offense if we aren't going to change our QB.

I was happy with the offensive playcalling against A&M, instead of just ramming it up the middle like we did all season, CC opened up the playbook and kept the defense guessing with the WR sweeps and play action.

I'm still hesitant though because it was against A&M's defense in the end, but yea I would love to see the team keep playing like that.

I think with the legs Jennings has, it's a good game plan. He can scoot and is pretty shift in space. Harris would be an even better fit obviously, with his running AND passing ability.

But whatever I'm done thinking about the QB situation and that's for another thread.

It was definitely more creative but A&M is bad so I'm not getting my hopes up too much over that game or this upcoming game.

What I would hate to see is this: More shotgun/pistol stuff but then being super predictable and then get in the I with toss lead and no play-action threat still.

This is what happened when JJ was at the helm that LSU tried to do several things. But couldn't do anything really well. It became predictable by personnel and formation.

I expect us to run the ball and will be disappointed if we go away from that. I just don't see Jennings really getting better at throwing. He's a sub 50% passer. I don't think the extra practices are going to fix that. That is something he's going to have to work on all offseason.

I don't know who ND expects back, but their team mailed it in. Their defense has been atrocious.

Actually, there is a reason to be optimistic about LSU's offense going forward.

Based on what we observed in our last game, the staff finally allowed the standard read option to be an option. I might almost even go as far as to say that there may have been one or two such plays that were an actual read. Lol

But, there are two very important points to be made based on this.

One being that going forward, opponents will have to respect Jennings as a running threat. And the other, maybe even more important fact is that the staff is willing to expose Jennings to injury.

Which means they feel Harris could come in and give the team a reasonable chance to win.

If you still must think pessimistically after this, you could say that the staff only did this because A&M's defense was that bad. Lol

Not that AJ was all that good, but there were many straight up drops that didn't help his numbers at all. I think there can be a decent improvement next year even with AJ still at QB. The receivers need to catch the ones AJ does get to them, and AJ needs to do a better job of getting more balls to them.

Well, um. Both defenses in the examples are horrid and can't run stop.

A duplicate effort in the bowl game to what happened versus A&M would basically tell us NOTHING for the offseason.

Now, if we go out against ND and somehow, AJ throws 28 times and completes 60% of his passes while taking care of the ball, then at least one could think, "maybe the time away for a few weeks helped him settle".

And, that latter would be a positive. If AJ goes out and goes 10/20 while missing easy passes and looking lost in the pocket while we roll up 300 yards on offense, then the only real reaction to that would be meh.

It would tell us the playbook has opened up for starters.

And think about how predictable we were against OM, Bama, and Arkansas. Imagine if they couldn't stack the box the way they did because we called plays similar to what we saw against A&M.

Never going to happen, so why even have this as a possibility in your mind? Do you just need an excuse ready to justify being miserable after the game?

Another angle is that with signing day approaching and LSU hard after a handful of WR recruits, as well as future QB's, I think they would like to show a more dynamic offense that will help them in their recruiting pitches.

Based on the information currently available, what makes you think that Anthony Jennings will ever even be an average QB?
