It's kind of wild actually, seeing some of the posts. And I have a shitload of respect and gratitude for Saban and what he did for us.

Were you around in the 90’s? It’d be like that.

Meh, if he didn't go to LSU and have success, he was going to have it at whatever program he went to that supported football better than Michigan St. He could've still eventually ended up at Bama.

His path was always leading to the NFL. He was attractive to bama bc he won at LSU. Had he stayed at Michigan state, he very easily could have gone back to the nfl sooner. He might have had success at a better place than Miami as well. If he didn’t, it’s a slim chance the timing and his anppeal align for him to be at bama.

Saban brought up the level of the whole SEC, but obviously most directly LSU and Alabama. UGA's recent success is also tied to Saban.

Yep. Very similar to what Skip bertman did for SEC baseball.

No way in hell. I’d agree that Saban pushed us ahead 10-15 years in his 5 years here. But LSU was always a sleeping giant that Dinardo woke up. We got a taste of winning again and that is why Saban came here. LSU had the fans buy in and money to pay Saban what was an insane amount of money back then. Saban laid the groundwork for where we are but there is no way in hell LSU would still be the doormat it was for most of the 90’s

And we were only really an absolute "doormat" for the brief (but still too long) period where we somehow inexplicably employed possibly the worst coach the SEC has seen in 50 years. Within 2-3 years of both before and after him, there were clear obvious glimpses of what any basically competent and motivated coach would be able to accomplish here within the evolving landscape of CFB.

There's A LOT of MA's (Mediocrity Acceptors) around here that don't like Saban because he's the exact opposite of them.

He has very high standards in every area of his "Process" and the MA's (Sunshine Pumping Louisiana Lifer Trash) do not.

Hey man I was born in ‘89 so the 90’s were my first glimpse of lsu football.

And growing up if you would’ve told me LSU would be where it is now and all they’ve accomplished, I would’ve laughed you out the room.

People fail to realize the impact Emmert had on Saban's coaching trajectory.
While it took a great coach to implement the Emmert plan, it was Emmert's blueprint that Saban followed at LSU and later at Bama.

Saban was a really good coach prior to LSU, but he became the great coach we have seen after working with Emmert. The board was going to hire some middle of the road coach till Emmert step in and paid about twice as much as we had been looking to pay knowing how quickly it would pay off when we became super successful.

They should stay their trolling asses on the SEC Rant. I don't know why they even come to this board for troll material. Losers.

No. Saban was the force that turned the school and adminstration around. Facility upgrades, etc

I understand why people say this because most people can’t see anything beyond the either or however
Emmett was pushing for a that too and without Emmett there is no Saban.

That said as we’ve seen Saban is the best there is so no doubt things would be different it would depend on who we hired of course. With the talent in the state it was always possible for the right guy to come along and win. Given putting more resources into the program especially as the money grew substantially for the SEC overall I do think we would have built a better program certainly better than reminiscing about 95-97. Winning 3 National Titles? Who knows we had the potential to win so it depends on who we would have hired.

Saban deserves all the credit he gets but Saban never comes here if not for Mark Emmert. He was the one that told Joe Dean to make the offer for 1.1 Million a year. Dean was trying to low ball Nick. Emmert was the guy that hired the Man.

In this chosen hypothetical, no LSU means no Bama

Damn it

NO, thirty years without beating bama at home, 30 years without winning a major bowl

If Kelly beats Bama in Tiger Stadium this season he will join Saban and Miles as the only coaches with 2 Bama wins in Tiger Stadium and will be the first with back-to-back home-field wins vs Bama in LSU history. LSU has 10 victories vs Bama in Tiger Stadium. Saban (2), Miles(2), and Kelly(1) account for 5 of those.

2008 (OT), 2012(two missed FG and TJ Yeldon screen pass ), & 2014 (OT) were all heartbreaking losses that (in my mind at least) should have been wins

1998 was a real killer too. The cherry on top of a disaster of a year.

Post looks like history rewritten by a 9th grader.
Does your history book include 7-4 LSU embarrassing Nick 45-26?
Saban came here with pretty mediocre 4/5 years in big-boy NCAA and didn't arrive LSU with near the clout you credit him.
Saban was a great DC and improving HC, but only implemented Emmert's vision already in place.
