This.
I'm not a Miles hater. Actually like the guy. I'm not a Miles lover either though. All of those people who say Miles should be fired after a loss are retards, and all of those people who say "who else would do better" are equal retards. B/c you don't know. Who was Les Miles before LSU? Who was Nick Saban? LSU made those coaches just as equally as those coaches have made LSU. So to act like we couldn't pluck up another up and coming coach and have equal to better success is stupid. I'll concede that to ignore the success we're having is also stupid.
But a loss would be 3 bowl losses in a row. How far of a snapshot would you have to have to see when the last time LSU accomplished that? You'd have to go back to 1982, 84, 85 and 86. We lost 4 in a row. Then your snap shot includes the years that came after that and you know where the program went.
So, to lose 3 bowl games in a row would be awful. But of course, that sting could be forgiven in just one day.

I think the question is "who could LSU hire tomorrow that would, without a doubt, do better"...key points being "could hire" and "would do better"

Not sure why, but I'm going to address this. Take a 20 year snap shot. We'll start in 2000 and go to 2020. Other than Alabama, what program in the country would you prefer to be than LSU? Don't tell me about missed opportunities, or specific complaints about LSU. No program is without their fair share of missteps. Give me a program that will have had a better 20 year run and why they are better. From 2000 to today (13 seasons), LSU has won 2 national championships, played for a third, won 4 SEC titles, played for a 5th, had a Heisman finalist, put a metric shite ton of players into the NFL, has played in 13 straight bowl games, won at a rate never dreamed of in our program's history, has not had a losing season and have not won less than 8 games the entire run. In a few days, we will witness the beginning of what may well be the greatest recruiting class in the history of our program all declare on national TV which will mean more winning, more success, more of everything many of us have come to enjoy over the past 13 years. And in spite of that, you're angry. To be honest, my only problems with our program are fans who, for some unknown reason, are either unwilling or unable to accept the fact that we're as good as we've ever been and the future is even brighter than today. That's not spin...it's a fricking fact. It's a damn shame that Alabama's recent and unprecedented successes at the hands of our former coach has warped the sense of some of our fans...but other than that program, there is not one in the nation that has had more or can expect more success on the horizon than our own. Sorry you're unable to enjoy it. Happy New Years...try and be less of a dick in 2014.

Oklahoma lost 5 consecutive BCS bowls (Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Fiesta, BCS NCG) from 2004 - 2009, including three losses in a row, and they somehow survived.
Good luck tomorrow - looking forward to a great game.

"No. It just means this board will be unbearable for nine months."
A nugget of truth from the mineshaft of inanity.

Really?
You people that justify losses and bonehead decisions by looking at the past and comparing it to everybody else that isn't in first place are the worst.
No LSU fan is unhappy or unproud of LSU s past accomplishments, however that has total of zero to do with today.
Was it Vince Lombardi that said second place is the first loser?
You and your pals that approve of what you posted are exactly that,,, first fricking losers.
Furthermore saying nobody else has beaten Alabama makes you look even more like a crybaby.
You remind me of ole miss fans.
negatigers must be embarrassed when all the dumbest posters on this site are on their side

That's a lot of spin. Yes, they survived. But that's 5 BCS bowls. This would be the NC, the chick fil a, and the Outback. And yes, we'd still survive. Doesn't mean LSU fans don't have a right to be upset by it. Doesn't mean that the program is not in a decline. You think Oklahoma fans were happy with losing those?

Win or lose wont change my perception at all on where the program is. Iowa is very good and will be pumped for this game. It is their Super Bowl.
Next year LSU will define itself as where the program is. We will find out if the mass exodus into the NFL draft last year was a program changer or just a little bump in the road.

Only a retard craps on nine or ten wins a season when LSU plays in the best division of the best conference in college football. We don't play in the SBC or the Big 10 or the fricking ACC, but THE SEC!!
Would it be better to win 11 or 12 games a year and the SEC every year---frick yeah. Of course, LSU has won the SEC as much as anyone since 2005 and the west as much as anyone, but we all want more.
I have to

I notice this cavalier attitude has become common on the Rant lately. I don't remember people talking like this back when LSU was winning all thief bowls. And when it comes down to it, this is amateur athletics--none of it really means anything except for the players and employees of the program.

Does it change your perception of where the program is? Not being a negatiger, but how important is this win? Tigers should win regardless of Mettenberger being out, so not an excuse IMO.
If LSU were to lose to Iowa there is a very good chance we would drop out of the top 25 ratings at the end of the year. How long has it been since LSU wasn't ranked at the end of the year?
A loss to Iowa would also affect how we are ranked to open up next year...especially if Jennings doesn't look very good...and yes, despite how much we hate 'em, pre-season ranking do matter.
This is a big game for LSU!
I think we take care of business tomorrow in a grindfest. LSU 24 - Iowa 21.

The recent past, present, and near future are essentially what make up "now." If all you are concerned with is this instant, you are, by definition, fair weather. Only what happens this instant matters. I disagree...
quote:
No LSU fan is unhappy or unproud of LSU s past accomplishments, however that has total of zero to do with today.
Except that, without fail, most of you have been unhappy even when LSU was winning at an even higher rate than the current higher rate. All you need to do is pull up posts from the 2011 season to find incessant bitching.

Wasn't it Ricky Bobby's Dad that said "If you ain't first you're last?"

For 13 years (and for what looks to be the foreseeable future) LSU has won at unprecedented rates in the history of the program. It can't be stated any more clearly than that. I'm terribly sorry that level of success has made me happy, and not a whiny count.
quote:
Furthermore saying nobody else has beaten Alabama makes you look even more like a crybaby.
There's only one set of LSU fans crying about anything...and it isn't the group pointing out that we've won at a tremendous rate.
quote:
You remind me of ole miss fans.
You don't remind of of any fan.
And before I forget, thanks for completely avoiding the center of my post...other than Alabama, which program for that 20 year span would you prefer to be? I'd avoid it to if I was proposing your view point.

So, it sounds like because Les wins 9-10 games a year, when he loses, he can go to the 50 yard line and take a dump on national TV and send the kids to the showers. But since he's doing great, no football fan is allowed to dissect his method. Only opposing coaches can do that. As a fan, its wrong to want your team to beat other unranked teams. If Les could correct his brain farts, he'd be on the same level as the other school in the division. He's that close....
So in other words, you agree that other than Alabama, there are no other programs in my 20 year window that have done it better than LSU. If there was an example, I'm sure you'd have pointed it out.
So even though LSU has won at rates unheard of in the entire history of the program, it's impossible to be happy about it because there is one program in that same time frame that has done better...and frick that, right?
Posted on 12/31/13 at 1:15 pm to DArbonneDuke
I'll say upfront that there's nothing "good" about a player getting hurt (of course), but a close loss to Iowa would get pegged on starting a true freshman in a difficult situation.
Basically, it's a meltdown-proof situation...unless LSU gets blown out, which is extremely unlikely.
Win: "Awesome!! Great way to go into the offseason, and we did it with #JenningsEra still wet behind the ears. Wait until he gets a full spring/fall practice schedule under his belt, and LF to hand off to, etc., etc."
Loss" "Oh well, shitty matchup that we narrowly lost. Didn't expect to win because AJ is a freshman, etc., etc."

"very good chance"???
I think there is almost no chance of LSU going from #14 to out of the Top 25 due to a bowl game loss.
A win would be nice to help calm some of the negative types down a tad and perhaps push us a tad higher in the minds of next years voters, but remind me where Auburn started this season.

in the near future, the question "what if LSU loses it's bowl game?" will be asked before the season even starts.

Give Miles credit, the reality is a mediocre SEC team but the fanbase truly believes we are an elite football program. Well done sir.
And who really cares about the actual game, we could be #1 in recruiting!
