Strange time to make such a comment.

Did you not see how much he was fed the ball last weekend?

everyone with eyes saw his talent last season and how obvious of a mismatch he is. coaches didn't seem to think he should be very involved in the offense until this last week. which is beyond stupid. but coaches are infallible on this board for some.

you'd think he'd be the go to red zone guy the last two seasons being that he's a foot taller than people covering him

“Quite frankly, that’s what we have to do,” Kelly said. “Watching him play, all of the complexities of playing the tight end position can be eliminated by playing him more in a wide receiver role and we’re getting to that point where that has to happen. He’s a talented player. We saw him on the touchdown how easy it is for him to flash his hands and catch the football. He just gives us more versatility, so I think you’re going to see that more moving forward.”

I think the offensive staff learned their lesson. The way he was used on Saturday is likely how he will be used going forward. I will be curious to see how defenses line up against him. It can lead to mismatches with other receivers or in the run game if they fully treat him like a receiver.

If he can consistently time his jump properly hes damn near impossible to defend on the back shoulder/jump ball situation. The jump ball at the end of the half he slightly mistimed his jump which impacted his ability to catch the ball. But still he had a very good game. Getting him and Anderson in routes together is going to open things up for Brown and Zavion.

Didn't he just have 8 catches, and 9 attempts? That's considered a lot.

Would like to see D. Green get more catches just to see what we have with him at TE.

He had a couple vs SELU and looked fine, but his gig is blocking, and he’s pretty good at it.

If he continues like he did vs SC, the offense will take the next step.

If he can continue taking chunks vs mismatches, he can also be used as a decoy to open up one on one opportunities for Anderson, Brown and Parker. It’s been difficult to get them much space with all of the drop zone coverage, but a guy like Green creating mismatches and demanding extra attention can force a defense out of living in that.

Remember Nuss’ interception was likely into a double team because they knew we always target green in the RZ. A fade in that situation might be smarter than a throw over the middle senselessly into double coverage.

Or just use Green occasionally as a decoy

Well, there was this guy named Mason hanging around at that time, so......

If you make him a full time wr then you don't get the kind of mismatches that he is getting

yeah you do. There is not a DB in college football that can match up with a 6'7" 240 wide receiver who has long arms and can jump out of the gym.

Announcers keep mentioning that he is a sloppy route runner. Nuss misses him sometimes because of that. Any truth to it?

Otherwise, I love the guy. He’s a huge weapon.

Some. He didn't get a lot of work last year when Taylor was eating up most of the TE snaps. Plus the injury. This is the first year he's been running with the 1's since camp.

You could see on the pass Nuss missed to him where Green didn't run the correct route. But in situations where it's "run to spot and jump" on the sidelines or in the corner of the endzone he's been lights-out.

I expect he'll still make some route mistakes when working as an actual receiver, but I also expect he'll get better over time.

He was behind the best tight end in school history last year, could not block, had no route tree, and was still constantly targeted.

He's been healthy for 2 games this year and he's caught touchdowns in both games.

Shut the frick up.

Man my thoughts exactly. He looked like the best player on the field. If he’s not getting 8-10 designed looks per game and at least one end zone shot per red zone trip, we’re overthinking things.

RPO slant for an INT is an inexcusable play call / read.

Brown is leading the team in receptions because they force feed him the ball. He’s got the worst yards per catch/ target on the team too

Though I agree on focusing on TD Green, A Anderson and Parker, Brown is not soft and is tough after the catch. Problem is that we only seem to throw it to him at the line of scrimmage. But I still think he's 2nd on the team in receiving yards. He still needs to contribute as he has been and hopefully more.

Yeah, it made no sense to have Green in the slot there. It was a one read RPO that either goes to Trey'Dez or gets handed off.

You could get 6 every single time in that scenario if you do the following.:

Trey'Dez on the outside, AA/Parker on the inside. Call a one read RPO to AA/Parker with a check to a fade. If the safety shades closer to Trey'Dez, run the RPO and AA/Parker are almost always going to beat the CB. If the CB is playing inside leverage, just hand the ball off.

If the safety doesn't shade Trey'Dez, and sits in the middle helping the slot corner, then check to a Trey'Dez fade.

It's that easy. It will work roughly 90% of the time. I'm not exaggerating I would run that play every single time I'm at the 3-5. It can't really be guarded.

Don't be too sure.
Josh Reed was sitting on the bench while the LSU coaching staff was using a third team" White QB" Craig Nall, as a WR. It was mid season before Reed was tried as WR.
A fan who had never played a down of football, Me, was bitching about it on the old "Geaux" Board. I had seen Josh catch passes, when coming out of the backfield, in the Spring game. He was a natural, and was difficult to tackle as well. Finally Josh Booty went to the Coaching Staff and made the case for Josh.
So much for Coaches talent acumen and evaluation.

Okay, I’ll grant you that, but when I said, “The coaches know more than you” I didn’t mean any coaches; I meant LSU’s current coaches. I’ve seen some very stupid head coaches, from Charlie McClendon to Curly Hallman.

It didn''t take him a year and a half. He saw the potential last year, but knew he was a project. As the year went on he got more playing time and began to show some simbalence of route running.

He started out this year as one of our prime weagpns, but got hurt. He's back now and is back to being a main target.

Green is like any other offensive option. You set it up, and there's a right time to dial it up.

If they are ready for it, DBs can converge and jump with him.

Green is a great weapon. But just because he's got 5 inches head start on a high ball doesn't mean it's automatic. You have to pick your spots. The USC game is about right for a contribution from him.
