Entirely true. 10-2 SEC team almost certainly makes the playoff.

could we make the playoffs while losing a couple of games? sure

but it certainly shouldn't be expected

Most thought 10-2 and the playoffs were very possible..
Most thought 10-2 would be possible if we beat USC in the opener, because a lot of the SEC games are winnable.

That in itself says something; if you're thinking you should go 6-2 in conference, your program is in a good place.

People are getting tired of losing the marquee opener. That loss sets the team in a bit of a hole, and people get frustrated because by midseason we generally think the team has improved greatly over the opener. You put a cupcake instead, and this team is 3-0, with building excitement over what could be. Hell, we'd be coming off 2 straight 10-2 seasons.

I still think this team can get to 10-2, but it will be hard. You have to take 2 of Alabama, Ole Miss and A&M, because I don't see another loss on the schedule. I think Alabama is a loss (but it IS at home). I think we can beat Ole Miss at home, I'm actually more worried about A&M on the road. We also have Oklahoma at home, but that's to end the season, and if we get that far in good shape I think we win that one.

I don't understand the idea of a "wasted season'. I want football to watch, so it's not a waste. Would be great if we can get to the playoffs, but if we don't it's still good, I've been entertained all season long. I definitely laugh at the fans panicking over a close loss... they apparently don't have the heart to watch the games being played, they just want the record.

If we beat bama I'm willing to possibly let not making the playoffs slide.

That'll be a sticky wicket. LSU will be an underdog in that game. LSU has a long history of losing in College Station-- even as a favorite!

I expect us to barely make the playoffs or barely miss them this year. Next year, I feel more confident.

But if we finish the season at #20 or lower than that? Yeah, that would be very bad and a sign the team is moving in the wrong direction.

How long did it take sark to put Texas in their current position? 4-5 years? He had some bad loses as well

If we finish top-20, but out, then I think it's a fine season with the D we have.

If we finish outside the top-25, and we look bad at the end of the season, then I think many more people will have Kelly on the hot seat in '25.

Personally, I think he's done a great job thus far considering the absolute dumpster fire he inherited. Recruiting has been stellar the last couple of years, so hopefully some of these guys come in, along with better portal guys, and we make the playoffs next year.

Sark hasn't even won a bowl game at Texas yet and has a .667 winning percentage there.

Saban went 8-5 in year 3 at LSU.

He inherited a much better team than Kelly did.

So you expect us to be better next year than this year? Not saying we won't but what areas will be better in?

OLine 4 of 5 starters are most likely gone
WR 2 starters most likely gone
QB could go
2 LB will most likely be gone unless Perkins decides to come back

We have alot of young talent coming in but that will take time to develop and gain experience.

Every team and situation is different.

If we had a competent defense, we're in the 4 team playoff last year. That could be considered "ahead of schedule". Without going into detail out of respect, a lot of the defensive issues came down to coaching, and specifically a very unfortunate situation that couldn't have been predicted or avoided. We rebooted the defense this year accordingly.

We're in a different window offensively now; new starting QB and WRs, and still no marquee running back. Our offense is still in the early stages but the passing game looks potentially great. Potentially.

This simply wasn't going to be our year, and most of us understood that going in. The only thing that should shake people, is if there's any indication that this is going to be as good as we'll get, and it's all downhill from here.
I don't get that sense, I didn't in preseason, I don't now.

My thing is we do have talent coming in but we also losing a lot of talent to the draft and transfer portal.
90% of those guys coming in will be freshman.
So are we supposed to contend next year or the year after?
