If Brennan was running this Joe Brady offense
Posted by ewilliams000 on 10/16/19 at 7:48 pm647
would we have the same record? If Joe Burrow didn't exist or chose a different school, could we still be close to top dog. I think we would still be undefeated but not feared like we are now.

We’d still have the same record. Maybe tighter games but Aranda would be playing man and not preparing for up the road and ensuring victory now

Fans are going to need to be patient with Brennan when his number is up. He'll be fine with reps.

Brennan has a talented arm so I am not worried.
Just needs to grasp RPO and the rest of the offense better.
He can make the throws, no doubt.

Maybe. Maybe not. Let’s just enjoy this ride without worrying about what ifs and hypotheticals

I don’t think we beat Texas with Brennan to be honest. There’s no way in hell he makes that 3 and 17 play but in other ways it’s hard to tell. If he was getting all the reps in the practice and had half a season we would probably still beat Florida. I just don’t see him doing what Joe did to win that game against Texas in game two. Still think he’ll be a good QB for us but Joe is on another level right now. Myles is fully capable of running this offense but who knows if he can run it like Joe does.

I think there's a solid chance we would have lost the Texas game. Joe made some NFL throws for TDs in that game that I'm not sure Brennan can make consistently.

I don’t think so. Joe is winning a Heisman so it’s not fair to compare. We’ll find out next year.

My biggest concern is his accuracy.

We had zero margin for error on offense vs Florida or Texas. We needed to score every possession in the 2nd half in both games. Not having the current projected number 1 overall pick in the first draft and trading him for a first year starter...it costs us one of those games and maybe both.

This is in no way how I think he turns out. But for you to say that is stupid. Burrow freakin won the Texas game

You're right. I forgot about Texas.

I don't know. I think Myles would/will be good with the scheme and weapons. But what Joe Burrow is doing is bonkers.
Look at the Completion % of quarterbacks with a similar number of attempts. It's special.
The average completion % of the other 36 quarterbacks listed here: 64.1%...
Joe is nearly 16% higher than that.

The Texas game is questionable bc some of the throws that Joe made were next level. Not that Brennan is unable to make those throws, but he may not have been as sharp in that environment.
The Florida game is really questionable. Joe got out of the pocket a few times, times that I don't see Brennan escaping. And, again, I'm not sure how Brennan is going to perform when he's the guy in a big spot.
With that said, we may have used the run alot more to set up the pass. Similar results, slightly different strategy.
I think we'd have 1 loss max right now with Brennan, but far less sexy statistics.

Burrow plays above his years. As much credit as Brady deserves, I think Burrow is one of those rare breeds.
That's not to say Brennan won't come in and be highly effective. But I think you'll see our running game get more emphasis next year with our 2 studs. Brennan will thrive with the balance we will be able to throw out on the field.
As long as we have this offense and recruit offensive weapons at the skill positions the way we have we will be a bitch to stop for the foreseeable future.

If Brennan is the starter next year he won’t be as good as Burrow overall, but he will have some flashes of “wow” moments with that arm.

Myles Brennan will be a superstar next year.

Let's be careful here. Let's assume that Brennan and Burrow are more alike than different. I think Brennan is just a touch taller, while Burrow is stockier. Both have pretty good form - if anything Brennan throws a little nicer deep ball and Burrow just seems to have a little more accuracy on short and intermediate throws.
But, in reality, these differences appear fairly slight in the grand scheme of things - receivers and playcallers would adjust to whomever, IMHO.
And this isn't a knock on Brennan - we haven't had the opportunity to see it. The "difference" for me with Burrow is that he is a gamer - a fighter if you will. That is what has separated him from our starting quarterbacks going way back. In fact, the combination of acute physical skills for the QB postion and this competitive fire has been absent probably since Rohan Davey.
Now - don't get me wrong, I love all our QBs. We had that bizarre stretch of somewhat mobile, but true pocket passers who happened to be black mixed in with white QBs who were smaller, more athletic and made plays with their feet (Davey, Mauck, Russell, Flynn) - of those, Russell was the prototypical passing machine - no throw was out of his reach and they probably had to extend the route tree to even partially exploit it. Davey had a big arm, too, but not like Russell. Davey was a warrior, though. All those quarterbacks were gamers, but I'm not sure any had the fire/arm combination of Davey and now Burrow.
Brennan is still young - hopefully, next year when he's the guy, he can mix in a little of that fire with his big league arm.
What is the most amazing part is that Brady came in and made an offense to fit our personnel. Seems like an alien concept at LSU, like trying to teach dogs how to play cards. But here it is...
