I wonder how many lawsuits have already made it to Sankey and Petitti’s desks this morning

I know the player attorneys saw at his coming from a mile way and had them ready to file. The letter from the Texas Trial group that represents the 33 players named in the TRO, made it sound like they were ready to go too.

They aren’t punishing the player, only the school. Who is gonna sue them?

How are they not punishing the player if they're banning them from coming back to the SEC and they are not going to make it with an NFL team. How is that not punishing the player?

It’s my understanding the TRO is against the NCAA and its affiliates, the conferences are the affliliates…they will go after them for contempt…

I’m sure the attorneys are well aware and will put certain language in that ties the conferences to the NCAA somehow.

Just because a player is granted the right to play doesn’t mean you can make a school take them.

The players are going to have to sue the conference with the argument that by placing penalties on the schools for the players participating, the conferences are limiting the players' trade through impunitive action on "employers"
This obviously would only apply if the injuction is granted on August 31. If the injunction is not granted, then the court sided with the NCAA and it doesn't matter what the league specific rule is. But if it is granted, then according to the court, the players are eligible to compete in the NCAA and its "affilitiates" and therefore punishments on schools by the conference could be argued as limiting their trade

The players...in a class action, because they are reducing their value by limiting the market in opposition of employment and anti-trust laws.

They threatened the schools with penalties if they sign pay and play those players. Essentially they are saying everyone gets 5 for 5 except for this one particular group. And to enforce that perspective they are now threatening the schools instead of the players as if their reasoning doesn’t include the players in that group specifically. It does, unequivocally. That’s flimsy footing for a legal argument. An argument that is undone mostly by their own actions.
They’re trying to have their cake and eat it too because reasons, but they’ve really stepped in it.

make a school? You don't have to make a school...the schools have already spoken.
The SEC's act is one to PREVENT a school from taking them.

I don't know why the SEC is fighting this. It is only one year that was screwed - the 2022 players coming out of high school.
Like someone posted, if the players would have known they could have stayed one more year - like everyone except their class - they would have stayed in college.
They were basically forced to try to get on a pro team.
The courts WILL rule for the players. The question is - now that the LSU president voted not to allow those players on the team - What does LSU football do about this?
This is a damn mess and I don't care too much about the football players. It is the LSU basketball team that it will hit hard.

It's against the NCAA and anyone acting as its affiliate in this particular situation.
In the world of legal minutiae, the SEC will say they are not denying these players under the NCAA's rules but clarifying their own conference-specific eligibility standards, which they are allowed to do under the NCAA so long as they do not violate the NCAA's rules. As such, they would argue, and probably win, that they are acting only in the interest of the SEC and not the NCAA.
Add to that, the schools can agree to abide by the SEC's guidelines (which is what they have basically agreed to do) in these cases and not accept the players. Then what?

I don't get why they want to dunk on kids who made $25k UDFA while paying other multimillions
