By the way, "objective opinions" is oxymoronic.

Do y'all think this is a good LSU team?
I think the 2024 LSU football team has the potential to be good.
OL - I was a little underwhelmed by our OL. We had too many penalties and did not open up holes in the running game enough. we were committed to the running game, but the execution wasn't what we needed. That needs to get better.
Passing game - I thought Nuss looked good for most of the game. there were a couple of questionable reads / throws, but i think you expect that in game 1 of his 1st full season starting.
Play calling - maybe we could have adjusted the play calling a bit. it seemed like USC D knew when it was going to be a run vs pass or they just got really lucky. so, something in our formations gave that away or we just didn't hide run vs. pass very well in this game.
Pass Defense - I couldn't see the holding from where i was sitting (2nd level behind the EZ), but USC QB had too much time to throw the ball. IMO
We got caught by the WR screen on a few big plays. our LB missed the TE on a few big pass plays & our S struggled on a few of the coverages.
Tackling - our tackling needs to get better on D. But this is still an improvement over where we were last season.
Penalties / Big plays - It seemed like USC won more of the key plays than we did. giving up the big KOR kind of took the momentum away. but that return came from the penalty on the TD. without the penalty, there is no big return. we have to be more disciplined, which i kind of expected more of that from Kelly.
We have some things to clean up. A lot of teams played weaker opponents. it will be interesting to see how this game helps / hurts us moving forward. if we can learn from this and improve every week, i'll stay optimistic.

LSU is a very talented team. The coach needs to get a handle on the immaturity and the units need to gel but they played well other than the O-Line. Baker did a great job in his first game as coordinator.
DB's were better than 2023, that is a low bar, but they were not good. WR isn't there yet but there appears to be a big upside potential
Honestly, the RB position is a concern. Emery hasnt regained his ability to cut and elude guys. The other two showed very little talent.

Yes, I think the defense did great. Though maybe they get exposed later in the season.
I think the offense did great and like both prior years it will open up as the season progresses.
Keep improving each week.

Yes, because they could have easily won that game and didn’t. Might be a good loss lesson that will carry over to successful season. They are and will be pissed. Poor Nicholls.

Mason looked like the best player on the Offensive side of the ball to me. Lacy played well, but I personally want to see him be consistent, so I won't applaud him for doing things he was supposed to be doing.
I was disappointed with not being able to run the ball effectively. The 4th down failed conversion early, and the late 3rd and short that got stuffed, were the two horrible plays for me.
Sloan has to call a better game, which I think he's capable of doing.

Yes, I think the defense did great
Now yes, they got some stops, so that's obviously a positive. But 7.7 ypp isn't good. At all.

Yes, it’s a good team. Plenty of room for improvement but most of the issues are not talent related but rather scheme/decision making/discipline. There were few times that we just weren’t talented enough to make the play outside of maybe the run blocking.

Who will be better? Bama? Ole miss?
Lincoln Riley has had a top 8 offense EVERY single year he's been a head coach. He had the #1 offense in the country in 2016 (as an OC), 2017, 2018. Since becoming a head coach, his offenses have ranked : #5, #3, #4, #8, #3, #1, #1.
I'll take bets that he has another top #10 offense this year. His offenses the past 2 years at USC have ranked significantly higher than anyone on our current schedule have had the past 2 years.
He will probably put up video game numbers against the weaklings of the B1G just like he did in the Big 12 and the PAC, but that does not mean USC has the best or the most talented offense we will face. Alabama, Ole Miss and OU all have better players. There's a reason he's never done shite in the postseason.

In his postseason games, his offense has scored:
48
34
28
55
47
45
42
The reason is because he’s never addressed his defense. But he’s arguably the best offensive coach in the game, and has been for a while.

We won 10 games the previous 2 years after being 11-12 the previous two. The biggest disappointment of the Kelly era was how the defense regressed significantly last year but the program is in a better shape than when he took over.
Only time will tell if he’s able to get over the hump.

I’ll keep it short and sweet. We have holes / weak spots that prevent us from being a top 8-10 team as of now. We’re probably in the top 16-20 teams for sure

What constitutes “good?”
I think this will be an incredibly average LSU team. 8-4 is far more likely than 11-1 or even 10-2.
What pisses me off the most that we all got our rocks off thinking Mr. Attention to detail, alignment, process, etc. Brian Kelly would come in and we’d be very tight, very disciplined, wouldn’t continually blow assignment after assignment and yet here we are. Year 3 making the same dumbass mistakes and decisions.
Hell, Kelly himself does it too. Receiving the ball in the first half by choice, retarded 4th down decisions, etc.
