Recruiting experts kept hinting at a potential DT grad transfer in the spring that would instantly boost this position. But not going to count chickens before they hatch. Even without any transfers I believe Davis will make the current guys serviceable.

So a below average DE moving inside and being 15 pounds underweight is supposed to help?

Hahaha 280 is the norm for a SEC defensive tackle?

PFF

Here is an article from before last season listing the top 10 returning defensive tackles in college football. All of them are 300lb or more except for 2 which are 295 and 297.

Anyone playing inside that is 280 and going up against a decent OL doesn’t stand a chance.

We have numbers and size, but we don’t have sec caliber DT’s. Guillory is average at best and he is the best of the bunch. Lee hasn’t done anything in 4 years of college ball.

Having bodies doesn’t equal fine. We haven’t had really good DL play in years.

Bo Davis will coach them up. Get the JUCO guy and the rumored great transfer in the spring and we will be fine

That isn't a solution. They will get blown up inside. Kelly needs to make some significant moves in the spring portal.

What if they gain 30 pounds or so?

You also forgot to mention that we lost Maason Smith. Big body, big loss. It seems like you’re trying to sugarcoat what we have. A whole lot of hoping going on that Bo will max out everyone’s potential. He certainly is the caliber of coach to do that, but I think that we should have utilized the portal to bring 1 or 2 more experienced DT’s into our lineup. We’ll see. Gotta trust CBK

Again, what makes you think they will be good defensive tackles?

Having an actual D Line coach, and a good one at that, will make a big difference.

Because you can't just say "if they gain 30 more pounds they will be fine". You don't just take a safety and tell him "hey we are light at LB, go gain 30 pounds and we'll put you there. You'll be fine"

There’s maybe 2 starting SEC defensive tackles in this group. McKinley is defensive end all day.

If they choose to ‘pass block’ to protect themselves, like they did this year, it won’t matter.

Such a weird year we just went through.

I have read/heard a few times that they have been wanting Jones to slim down 15-20lbs. So I highly doubt hes going to be sliding inside.

I like the optimism, but do you remember how awful our entire defense was last year? I'm not expecting much until I see it on the field. I'm hoping the new coaches can do a much better job coaching than the last group of clowns we had!
