We are in tier 2 - 6th/7th - 15th. Talent has slipped in several areas.

Stupid thread. LSU is absolutely an elite school at this point and will win more championships in the future.

Saban was right when he said the worst part of LSU’s fan base is the chicken little catastrophe syndrome.

One loss and then everyone thinks LSU is doomed and the program will never recover or be good again.

See my reply to the other person who listed those 3. And bet Bama becomes the next Clemson.

Problem is we are also slipping behind a lot of tier 2 teams

In the last 10 years we have only two top 10 finishes yet we have three finishes unranked

Hard to call that elite

Not elite. Just had the most national championships outside Bama. Just had the number 1 offense and another heisman winner last year. Yeah, "not elite". Then who the frick is.

Nominee is saying we haven’t been really good.

But we’ve been painfully inconsistent.

And for the last decade, outside of 2019 we have done nothing on the national scale. Just 1 SEC championship and 1 playoff appearances since 2011.

Not what elite programs do.

And sure, we had the Heisman winner and #1 offense last year. What did that get us?

You don’t have to like it. But the truth is, LSU is a good but not elite program.

We have won 10 games two straight years.

Dont see where 8 is coming from.

Sorry if I'm not impressed with 9-3 and getting win 10 vs a depleted 7-5 Big10 team in a middle tier bowl game.

If we are elite like some people suggest, then it wouldn't come to that.

You don’t become elite in 3 years building from 32 player roster! Expect it in year three is a reach but we have the coaching and are building the players. If we continue to recruit at this level and retain players we will be elite again and for a long time.

Elite?

We’re not even relevant.

That seems clear to me - yes, after 2019, LSU football has not been "elite".

Elite teams do not fall off a cliff after seniors graduate

Elite teams are not elite TEAMS... they are Elite PROGRAMS

Top tier coaching
Great facilities
Structure and order in place
Players that want to stay
Players that want to play for the school and the pedigree it entails
Stable staff and coaching that stick around
Brand recognition
Self-recruiting program
Large fanbase

how many times did Alabama lose elite talent to the draft and we all thought "great now they don't have [x] star player this year will be different" and all they did was pivot a little in philosophy and game design and they were winning the ship again. I mean hell they subbed out a starting QB in a championship game and won the natty.

Georgia had a fricking REPEAT ship

Until NIL became a thing Clemson was able to rinse and repeat as well

We graduated the 2019 class and our program fell off a fricking cliff

That is not an elite program... an elite program would have at least been presentable at the very worst in 2020

You can speculate when and why LSU started to lose elite program status or if they ever had it to begin with but we certainly are not in that echelon now.

I agree 2003-2007 we were elite. Around 2011ish we were on the CUSP of elite but couldn't breakthrough due to Saban.

2019 was an elite team... a once in a lifetime spectacle.... we were not an elite program.

I think the biggest thing we need at the moment is stability. Some sort of grounding force to at least make us respectable after O nearly nuked the program.

I do not disbelieve Kelly can be that force. I don't think odds are good he makes us elite.... but I do believe he can right the keeling over trajectory this program was taking on.

the way things were in Cholly Mac years, first part of DiNardo tenure, CLM, and now. The exceptions were 2003 and 2019.
