I think Paul Skenes may win today.

Fun fact: It's been 10 years since the Pirates have been in the post season.

How and why the MLB doesn't step in due to a cheap owner is beyond me.

Skenes has only had one bad start this year. The rest of the losses are on the hitting or lack thereof.

I wonder what the worst record has been for a pitcher who has won the cy young award?

Skenes could potentially win the cy young award with a losing record. I wonder if the voters would ever vote for a pitcher with a losing record, sub 2.5 ERA and 1.5-2 per inning SO stat line.

He’s going to have to fight Yoshi for it, and Yoshi is on the dodgers. As much as Paul deserves it if he keeps pitching like this, Dodgers are a playoff team and I feel like the voters would err on the side of the powerhouse and not the basement dwellers with a negative record.

Degrom went 10-9 in 2018 and 11-8 in 2019 and won the Cy Young in both seasons. I really don’t think wins and losses are considered much anymore for the Cy Young, nor should they be

They had nothing on Lloyd McClendon and Gary Redus

He had an incredible game a couple weeks ago against the Phillies who pitched a guy making his MLB debut - in eight innings Skenes gave up one run on three hits, struck out 9 with only one walk.

Pirates lost 1-0.

Nolan Ryan had a crazy year like that and didn’t win in 1989 , 8-16 record 2.76 era and 270 strikeouts and finished 5th in cy young voting

That’s why this antiquated stat needs to be done away with.

I don’t follow pro baseball, so I may be wrong here, but I feel like if you gave Skenes 5 runs a game, he’d almost never lose.

Wild stab in the dark here, but maybe because they’re making money without needing to “step in”.

Yoshi's numbers are even better than Skeene's numbers to this point, lower ERA, lower WHIP, lower BA against... but the Pirates did beat the Dodgers in LA when the two pitched head-to-head.....just sayin!

Too squishy of a judgment call. Where is the line drawn?
