I think it’s actually pretty easy to keep the college football regular season relevant

The top 8 teams get a bye plus additional incentives such as re-seeding the playoff teams after each round so that the top teams in the tournament always play the lowest-ranked remaining teams in each round.

For example, if #24 upsets #9 in round 1, then #1 will play #24 in round 2 and NOT #16 or #17. If #9 wins, then #1 will play whatever the other lowest ranked remaining team is in round 2.

This incentivizes trying finish at the top of the rankings instead of being content with just getting in.

Why jump through a million hoops in order to try to maybe make the product less shitty… instead of just not making the product less shitty?

NCAA Basketball doesn't have an issue. Why would you want to complicate things even more?

The history of the four team playoff format proved that there are almost always less than four worthy teams. 24 is ridiculous. It’s all an ESPN money grab.

Teams with a bye are currently 1-7 in the 12 team format.

It's stupid. It's gay.

The regular season was devalued in the last expansion. You're telling me doubling it in size won't devalue it more?

At least 15 of the teams will have no shot of winning a 24 team playoff, probably more like 18-20.

In the old system, a fan base could feel good about their middle class team finishing in the top 25 or just outside it and winning a decent bowl game against a legit opponent. Half of the teams would feel good at the end of the season. Now all the fans of all those teams are going to feel like shite when their team either doesn’t make the playoff or gets their arse handed to them whenever they face a true title contender.

Even for those teams that are in the 5-15 range, used to half of them would end the season winning a prestigious bowl game, now 98% of the time they will end as forgotten losers.

So basically 98% of the time for 98% of the teams there is no accomplishment to look forward to. Not even upsetting a top team during the season will mean anything.

The CFB we all grew up on and loved is dead. Who’s storming the capitol with me?

So, how long will the regular season be? I can't imagine they would play 12 games then play 5 more games to win a championship.

Moot point. This years 2nd round is New Year’s Eve.

That alone is a ridiculous arrangement that has to be fixed.

No championship games. Top teams get a bye. Start the playoffs on week 13. LIKE EVERY OTHER LEVEL OF FOOTBALL.

I would say, in the 24-team playoff, this can potentially get resolved. If a team barely snuck their way into the playoff, and they manage to win a game or maybe two before getting dropped out. I think a lot of fans would be able to feel good about that season.

I agree with the top 8 bye, but there also needs to be a real homefield advantage. Once you get to the final 4, I'm okay with neutral site, but everything before then needs to be on campus.
