Regardless if it was targeting or not, I just don’t understand how a blindsided crack-back block/hit on a player isn’t a penalty. If they’re striving for player safety.

He got hit in the jaw dumbass

Yes he did....
You are correct.

Take a look at the damage to his face on the sidelines.

The rule is head to neck area.

He got nailed in the neck AND was defenseless AND the defender lowered his head to make contact

He also launched himself. In the replay u can see he launched himself upwards into Burrow.

Which is specifically stated in the rule as a targeting violation

LSU was penalized for the exact same block I belie e it was 2 years ago against Auburn and the player was effected for targeting.

they did not miss it. they would not call it.

I think after the TV showed Burrow’s jaw someone told the official to tighten up their calls. Thus all the ejections.

Honestly think the officials were just out of sync all night, but the first quarter was rough

I told my wife that the refs were going to get somebody hurt because they were allowing the UCF players taunting to get out of hand.

Thought the no call on the late hit out of bounds was worse especially after they picked up the flag

How the hell can you pick up that flag?

Was there a second targeting that was called?

Just trying to get a feel for how I paced myself drinking.

I'm watching the replay now, Burrow seemed to be energized afterward

The entire team rallied after that hit.

Also, note the definition of "defenseless player," which is important.

The refs were 100% calling whatever they had to to keep the game close. They do this all year long, but really ramped it up for Tamu and Fiesta.

Because it wasn't targeting?

Orgeron looked stupid when he was yelling at the official about targeting.

We've been over this. The rule is "forcible contact to the head or neck area". And enforced if the contact is by "leading with the crown of the helmet or with the shoulder". The hit checks out as forcible contact to the neck area with the shoulder and incidental contact with the helmet to boot.

And the rule is to be 100% enforced against a "defenseless player" which, by very definition of the rule, specifically states "a quarterback after a change of possession" as one of the examples. Check that box too.

And then not one but two players taunted him while he was folded up near the sideline. That's another 30 yards of penalty on top of the 15 yard personal foul with targeting and automatic ejection.
