Sooner or later you’re gonna need to hit with all 9 instead of 8.

LSU made it to Omaha with Ty Ross hitting .217 and Andrew Stevenson hitting .193

Stevenson was a freshman. You expect to take your lumps with freshman.
He also scored 22 runs that year. Hal, as a sophomore with plenty experience, has scored 9 runs this year. 9.

Stevenson also made a 2 out based loaded awesome catch in the sec title game against vandy when we were up 4-2 and went on to win. his play in the field far exceeds what Hal does.

Stevenson was a freshman in 2013 who consistently got better. Hugh’s has consistently got worse. You’re crazy to try and compare the 2. Y’all acting like Hughes is head and shoulders better than Reid at 3rd is laughable.

The situations are being compared, not the players. Please try to keep up.

Are y’all going to make me dig up some of the posts absolutely shitting all over Stevenson in 2013?

In the following years. This isn’t Hughes freshman year!!!

Also, without looking it up I’m not sure what other options we had then Stevenson in the outfield. I know we have Reid who can do just as good a job at 3rd.

I will listen to the argument that having to put Reid at 3rd and beloso at 1st does weaken the defense significantly as a team...

I’m not commenting on who should play or who shouldn’t, everyone has some thought or opinion and that’s what this board is for. What I am commenting about is the way we talk or describe some of our players. There is no need to say this player or that player sucks, should transfer, never see the field again ect ect ect. There is no need to put down anyone who wears Purple &Gold in any sport, if you think someone is not as good fine........let’s just not insult our own to make a point. I’m not trying to point a finger or start a fight, just asking if we can just do a little better in some of our discussions.

Meh, when you play college athletics on this level your going to be talked about. Sometimes it may be good things, sometimes you may be the worst player to ever play the game. These players know this when they sign up to play. The players could give two shits about what is said on message boards.

I get it. No one wants him to not play good. But he isn’t good. Do you want to ignore his play so we don’t “bash” him?

This has already been answered. Again, please try to keep up.

ETA: The argument was Foster over Stevenson because Foster had a better bat and wasn’t that much worse in the outfield. And he even had a strong arm!

You know many of those runs came as a pinch runner right?

I’d like to ask some of these guys what they think of Ibarra at 3B. Then it would be fun to compare his defense vs Hals... I wonder if they’d change their tune on how good he is over there.

Broussard and Hughes had the same number of extra-base hits going into last night.

Here’s hoping Hal launches his first bomb of the year tonight and gets back even with Broussard for XBH.

I say we play Reid at 3rd against a right handed pitcher and keep Hughes (.178) on the bench. I want to WIN in Omaha not just “get there.” Not happening batting 8 vs 9.

Pretty simple and that’s my opinion.

I did the comparison a couple weeks ago, so the numbers for Hal may have changed, but he's been one of the best fielding 3rd basemen by fld pct in the last 6 years. He may have been the best, I don't remember.

No it’s fine to talk about his performance and say it’s shitty or however you chose to describe it. I’m talking about when the discussion becomes a personal attack about our players. I didn’t mean to imply you in the post, or anyone in this thread, I just wanted to say something before it started.
Sometimes some posters have gone to extremes to insult or worse a player to get their point across, that’s all I was really trying to say.
I apologize i didn’t mean you I just happened to respond from your post.

He hasn’t even played 3rd all year. And I’m sure the 3 errors in sect didn’t help

No way. He and Reid are almost the exact same. Not much difference.

That a guy who only had two XBH in about the same number of at bats (actually 4 more) went yard last night.

The point is that weird stuff happens in postseason baseball and there’s nothing wrong with being optimistic as a fan that the best case scenario will work out.

Going into the SECT Chris Reid was something like 1 for his last 32 and he played an integral role in winning the game that essentially locked up a BR regional host site.

That’s all. I wasn’t exactly trying to make some deep, profound point that makes you think. Don’t read too deep into it.
