I hate what Woody did in the Will Wade situation. But Scott is the best fundraiser LSU's AD has ever had. I would rather SW be hiring our next fball HC that Governor Landry or any of his cronies.

we actually made the best hire of that cycle

In a cycle that had 3 of the top 12 go to their active coaching job (Cristobal, Lanning, Freeman) and an additional coach in the top 12 take a HC job (Elko) you think WE made the best hire

We may have picked the best from Woody’s short list.

That doesn’t make it the best hire.

he pretty much kicks arse at fundraising.

I can buy that but how much of that dries up when the big guns say stop wasting my money..

Not good enough. He crippled the 2nd largest revenue generating sport while overpaying for our recently departed failure of a football coach.

Spare me the womens basketball talk. Kim would came no matter what.

Jay.....that's it. He's the ATHLETIC director for all athletics, not just the baseball coach hirer guy

That’s fair lol. Elko and Cristobal are probably the only guys on that list that might’ve potentially had any interest in coming down IIRC.

Idk man. Doesn’t feel like missing on Kelly & stabilizing the program in Orgeron’s wake is grounds for termination, but I’m a little more receptive to the basketball argument.

Football front office is in really good shape.

Woodward is regarded as one of the best AD’s. Would hate to see him go.

Hiring Kelly wasn’t the fatal mistake. Giving a 59 yr old guy a 10 year guaranteed contract was the mistake

Losing Johnson one day will be the repercussions for ousting Woodward

Won’t be laughing when Jay bolts for Aggies one day due to nil

bombed the football and basketball hires

TBH everyone agreed beforehand that Coach Brian Kelly had a solid resume. But he wasn't a good fit for the SEC, or Louisiana, or LSU.

Nobody could have imagined Woodward would have struck out with Coach McMahon. Everything seems to indicate he was a great hire at the time, and many on this board welcomed his arrival in BR. His lack of success on the court is more than disappointing, it's embarrassing.

He totally fricked the 2 sports that keep the athletic department afloat.

Doesn’t matter what else he’s done.

Firing Woodward is going to be deeply stupid. He did was he was hired to do, which was deliver big name coaches to LSU, and he did it in the manner in which people were hiring big name football coaches at the time. He missed. It's not a fireable offense IMO.

10 year contract.

He incentivized a coach at the end of his career to not give a shite.

I agree with the “miss” part. But I can go hire a guy if I’m offering a 10 year guaranteed contract at the top of the college coaching salary range.

The pet about Woodward Id be concerned losing is the money that LSU has been able to get mobilized.

but “overall” doesn’t really mean anything. It’s football, and to a much lesser extent, men’s basketball. The rest doesn’t really matter.

And Woodward has failed spectacularly at both. He has to go.

It's not his fault Kelly shite the bed

It’s not that Kelly failed. It’s the contract he gave him and his history regarding Jimbo.

I don’t know how you let him make the next football hire. And if the AD at LSU can’t make the football hire, he can’t be AD.

Mulkey wanted to come home, and CJJ would have crawled over hot coals to be part of Skip's legacy. If Woodward is an exceptional Manager, despite his dyslexia with football contracts, those people are very hard to find, and throwing the baby out with the bath water for the sake of appearances seems purely political.

The idiot governor wants him gone. He already got the president out of there. He’s gonna want to have his fingerprints on the coach.

Not good signs.

He also hired Chris Petersen at Washington.

The contracts are what they are, you have to compete with the market & that’s where the market is at.

IMO the important thing is that we cut bait & got his buyout paid.

He didn’t follow the crowd. He was leading the trend. First in 2017 and then again in 2021. He sent shockwaves around the country with his contracts to Jimbo and then again with BK.

I disagree. When you make a $60M mistake - when you include buying out his assistants - it can't be just swept underneath the rug. Also, Woodward wasn't hired to get big name coaches, he was hired to hire coaches that could win at LSU and CBK just wasn't a fit.

You don't just hire a big name and just expect it to work. I think he's an exceptional coach, but he wasn't the coach for LSU and that was pretty apparent early on. Coaching in the toughest conference in the country is a 24/7 job and I don't think he understood that and that's something Woodward should have picked up on. If Woodward would have spoken to those close to ND program, he would have found out that if you wanted to talk to Kelly, you had to call the golf course because that's where he spent a lot of time, even during the season. I heard that was often the case at LSU, also!

I wish Kelly the best and I think he's going to still get a great job, but you can't overlook the fact that this was a horrible deal for LSU and he had a lot to do with that. The reality is Kelly is walking away an extremely wealthy man and LSU is left to rebuild a program that is almost guaranteed to lose a lot of players to the NFL and a lot of the younger players are going to jump into the transfer portal and sign lucrative NIL deals with other schools.
