No coaches will ever retire at LSU, they all get fired. It's the nature of the beast!!

Like Saban? He sure didn't get fired.
Posted on 12/4/25 at 9:32 am to Barkbowwow
Yeah LSU was definitely gonna fire Saban

How many schools have a lot coaches retire?
ETA: And how competitive are they?

Who was the last SEC coach who wasn't shown the door or "
forced" to retire and was able to retire when they wanted besides tGOAT nick saban?

What a maroon. Look at why LSU has fired its last 3 coaches. Context matters. And it’s not exactly unique to LSU.

Spurrier?
Was probably the case for him
Was his last game vs LSU?

Did he say the same thing about Florida? UCLA? South Carolina? Nebraska? Etc. etc.?

Bum Phillips said all coaches are hired to be fired. Nothing special about LSU

Saban
Arnsparger
Deitzel
McClendon
Bernie Moore
Miles, EdO, and BK got fired only because they played not to lose, rather than put in the effort to win. Miles could have retired here. Same with Kelly

I mean, Alabama has had 2 coaches retire from there in the past 40 years. They've fired more than 2 coaches in that timeframe.
Who is the last coach to retire from Georgia? Dooley? Does that even count if he moved to the AD role?
It's a disingenuous argument because it's the same at every school.

I could be wrong but I think Dietzel is the only LSU coach to leave LSU for another college job. Saban and Arnsparger left for a pro job or to become an AD.

Nonsense. Find a guy that works year in a year out and you'll have your Day or Smart here. This job is entirely too big to half arse. Les got complacent and refused to get with the times offensively. In O's case, he liked to chase pussy and lost his drive. In Kelly's case, he was lazy and an a-hole which led to L's.
None of those guys were let go for no reason.

Per the google AI:
Firing coaches is not an LSU phenomenon. Fowler should know better, and you're a fool for agreeing with him.
quote:
Data from 2008-2019: A research paper analyzing NCAA FBS coaching contracts found that, during this period, 145 head coaches were fired "without cause," while another 43 either resigned or retired. It is noted that a coach may be given the option to announce retirement or resignation as an alternative to the university announcing a firing.

Probably Urban Meyer

Not many power 5 coaches will have a retirement party. It's the nature. There are dips in environment. To assistants leaving, athletes that don't quite pan out, etc. College football is a delicate sport. Look at Les. Man kept winning, but had to go. The coaches that retire at the same school for lets say 15-20 years are going to be Juco or D2 schools. There's not enough money floating around to buy coaches out so you have to ride the wave. LSU, Bama, Florida, Texas, etc have money to drop on someone that's going to win. So I do agree, but to say it's just LSU would be an incorrect statement.

Coaches are hired to get fired by and large in college and in the NFL. Very, VERY few get to go out on their own terms.
