I feel pretty good. I think the Oline wins this game for LSU.

Well, I’m done buying into the offseason hype. So until LSU can show me something, I’ll be be shocked if the LSU defense holds USC to under 35 points. The LSU offense better bring it because I just still have no faith in this defense until I see it regardless what coaches say during practice.

Hard to look at the names in the secondary and DL and get too excited but it’s not like they were scrubs coming out of high school.

Great if I can just get over this left hammy. My backpedaling is trash right now.

I was feeling pretty good till I watched the U Tube video with the two locked on guys Moscona and Marc Kulkin the USC guy. I think USC passing attack is going to be a challenge for I defensive backs to cover. The hope is that Baker can come up with enough schemes that we can get enough pressure on the QB to cause some hurries or even a sack. Their QB has been known to run when under pressure. May need to have a scout on him if this turns out to be a problem. I used to be a Kool Aid drinker, but the last four openers have brought on a reality check. Should be fun to watch and bet the TV audience will be significant.

Still very concerned about the defense. I just don't think the talent level is where it should be by LSU standards. The offense is fine I think, but not the defense.
Hopefully the new staff will coach us up enough to at least be average this year on defense, but I think that's probably the ceiling for us given the relative talent level. Hope I'm wrong on that.

One thing about Les, up until the end, he was going to curbstomp OOC opponents.
I wouldn't call that UNC game where they played without 13 players a curb stomping, nor would I call win over a pretty bad TCU team one either.
But yeah both were better than the embarrassing losses to Miss. St. and UCLA.

I feel good. I’m just conditioned now to believe that our 1st opponent is going to do things that our team has no answer for.
I hope that the presser after the game isn’t “that’s on us the coaches. We didn’t foresee them doing those things that they did…”

Cautiously optimistic. Really hoping for a 10-2 regular season record, with a playoff appearance. Kinda feel like maybe a first round playoff win, but depends on if it’s a home or away game.

I'm really hoping our offensive line is as dominant as everyone thinks. We've got some great pieces, but offensive lines have to work as a unit and too often, they are defined by their weakest link rather than their strongest.
I am hopefully optimistic, but we need to be able to control the ball on offense because our defense is still very thin and will need some rest.

As of late, LSU has a habit of ruining their season and losing the first game! Let's hope for better results this coming Sunday!

Here is an objective/neutral point of view for the up coming season.
OL - What do know? Good returning starters with a huge question mark at center. Remove camp talk speaking to positives - the center has been struggling with the snap. Can’t fool around week 1 against USC, killing drives with bad snaps or turning the ball over should be a concern.
WR - phenomenal unproven talent. Lacey & Hilton had some key drops last year but also huge plays. CJ Daniels has the best experience and consistency.
RB - solid group, need Williams and Jackson to step up.
Qb - again, what are we going to get? No one really knows. Have to play the game to find out. This is an uneasy feeling after Daniels.
DL - big boys on the first team and then they fall off through the two deep. Can freshmen and transfers step up? Not expecting game changers here at the onset of the season.
LB - have they improved run fits? Are we going to see LBs waiting for lineman to come get them or are we attacking the hole. This could be one of the key pieces to defense improving statistically.
DB - largest concern by far. We all know what happened last few years. We can hope for improvement but have to wait and see.
Overall, there are many unknowns for this LSU team heading into the season. If 50% of the unknowns can step up and play at above average we will be pretty solid. We would need the remaining 50% to be average to be competitive in the SEC & playoffs. If any of the unknowns cannot improve we will lose 3 games at the least.
Key positions to improve - DB, DL, WR.
Key positions to be above average - QB, LB, WR
Key needs - OL

This is where I am as well. I thought LSU would win both FSU games. They didn't. And they looked pretty sloppy in both games. I think LSU's defense will be much improved from last season. But there are still (experienced) talent and depth issues that cause concern. That's not a completely comforting thought going into a game vs. a HC who, if nothing else, has always been able to put together really good offenses.
I think LSU CAN win the game. I wouldn't be surprised if LSU DOES win the game. But I'm not ready to take the leap of faith just yet to predict they will win the game. After the last two seasons I'm taking a "show me, don't tell me" approach.

I'm so dang nervous about this one. A bit of PTSD after losing the opening game so much recently. But, if we can win this one and start 1-0, we absolutely should be 5-0 going into a home night game against a top 5 Ole Miss team. Win that with homefield advantage on national TV and good gracious this season is looking promising.
-or-
Lose this week, start 0-1, and there's just so little margin for error with 3-4 more top 10 games remaining. Not only that, but it just feels like in the age of NIL recruiting, I can't help but be a negative nancy that this win would go such a long way in national perception and thus keep our top 3 recruiting class together and set us up even more for 2026.
All that said, I'm cautiously optimistic and trust BK to have righted the ship defensively and that the new staff will have guys flying around from the jump.

Watching Carter the Power breakdown the USC/Louisville bowl game. Miller Moss has NFL level anticipation and throws. He’s a very, very good QB.

I think the OL will be fine. In fact, I think Chester makes the OL better because they will have a physical presence at center they didn't have last season. He came into the Missouri game last year in the 4th quarter at a time LSU was losing and HAD to keep executing because of the unreliable defense. He was fine in that game.

WR - phenomenal unproven talent. Lacey & Hilton had some key drops last year but also huge plays. CJ Daniels has the best experience and consistency.
"Phenomenal" is quite a leap. Lacy can be really good. But he's been inconsistent. Hilton, on the few occasions he's been healthy, has looked more like a "track guy" playing WR than a football player with track speed. Daniels has a lot of experience. But playing Bowling Green, Buffalo, UTEP, Western Kentucky, etc is FAR different than playing Alabama, A&M, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, etc. Oregon held him in check pretty easily last season. The other guys COULD be good...but it's all potential and none really "flashed" last year. Most of LSU's great WRs at least showed flashes very early in their careers (OBJ, Clayton, Landry, Chase, Nabers, even Boutte...before he got hurt).
quote:
RB - solid group, need Williams and Jackson to step up.
Williams is a winner that does everything you want. Jackson is the first "homerun hitter" since Guice. The concern is depth beyond them because it looks like a big dropoff.

Qb - again, what are we going to get? No one really knows. Have to play the game to find out. This is an uneasy feeling after Daniels.
Nussmeier is going to make some "wow" throws in tight windows. Throws Daniels wouldn't, and maybe couldn't make. But in every game he's played where he attempted at least 12 passes he's thrown an interception. There is going to be good. It's how much can of the bad can he avoid and to what extent LSU's defense allows the team to mitigate the bad
quote:
DL - big boys on the first team and then they fall off through the two deep. Can freshmen and transfers step up? Not expecting game changers here at the onset of the season.
There is no Glenn Dorsey, or other similar DT's who can blow up the pocket and live in the backfield. But I think this group can at least hold its own better than what people think. Plus, I think the DEs may be the strength of the defense. Something that wasn't there last year.
quote:
LB - have they improved run fits? Are we going to see LBs waiting for lineman to come get them or are we attacking the hole. This could be one of the key pieces to defense improving statistically.
They will be better because they can't be much worse than last year. To what degree Baker can unleash Perkins will be key. Depth is also a concern as beyond Perkins, Whit Weeks, and Penn, there are average players and true freshmen

DB - largest concern by far. We all know what happened last few years. We can hope for improvement but have to wait and see.
Talent is still an issue. But I think simply knowing where to go this year will make them better.
