How would Les Miles have done in the transfer portal era?

He probably would have done very well. But he still would have sucked as a coach. He was a very good recruiter.

Miles didn't need a portal to get the talent he had a want for.

There would have been a lot more receivers taking the John Diarse route.

We’d have all the #1 rated QB’s in the country either sitting on the bench or playing WR while we stick with a QB that runs for 4 yards on 3rd & 27 after a couple failed running attempts and penalties.

And, in fairness, we would have much better RBs.

I think he would have gotten some excellent players, but he would have still had no regard for shoring up weaknesses in the roster. He’d still have a ton of good receivers that were wasted at LSU. And he still would have stubbornly clung to his Stone Age offense.

Good question and interesting to speculate on. But the transfer portal would not have helped Les Miles close the gap between him and NC-contending coaches that was ever widening by the time he was fired.

In the aughts and early 2010’s, there was hardly a better college coach. Then the game swiftly changed and left him in the dust.

He would have picked up the best Fullback in the country every year. JK

Good recruiter but seemed to focus more on the skill position players which led to good recruiting rankings. But we had too much attrition with large portions of recruiting classes not on the roster only a year or two later.

I love the way Coach Kelly is focused on building depth in the trenches.

Prob good but his problem wasn’t recruiting. It was his inability to develop players, particularly QB, and his 1970s offense.

The only QB he picked that was worth a frick was a transfer so maybe better?

I’d imagine we would have been a pretty appealing transfer destination for QBs during his run

He would have gotten a lot of great wide receivers and he never would have used them.

Poor. He would have had QB and WR recruits running away from the program to go to spread offenses.

Yeah no doubt he could recruit.

Now the question is how many top guys transfer OUT under Miles and the offense?

I have a feeling he would have lost many top guys to the portal had it existed back then.

Who really cares? Miles has been gone quite a while.

I think he would have lost a lot of players who would show up and say screw this after their first year.
