# 5 won’t be retired. You’ve gotta win something to merit your number getting retired.

Can’t wait for the 270 threads this summer asking “Who gets 7 and 18?”

Fantastic joke. Not an ounce of waste here. Well done

“Out with the old, in with the new.” New coach, new era, new dynasty, new traditions. Great time to drop #7 and #18 tradition. It’s lost its mojo. Time to move on with a new coach and new traditions.

5 and 9 actually carry some weight. 7 and 18 were Les Miles making a mountain of a mole hill

The #18 tradition started with Matt Mauck in 2003 after we won the National Championship against Oklahoma.

#18 was Mauck's number.

Just don’t mess with our traditional uniforms and helmets. Ole Piss has about 5 different ones. It works for them, especially when they can’t even figure out what their mascot really is. Does not compute here at LSU. Am not sure if CLK will try to introduce multiple wardrobes, but hope he doesn’t change anything about our awesome traditional uniforms.

I agree it's time to stop with the sacred number BS. #18 was horribly jinxed this year.

I love how the first response is usually the thread winner. Enjoy another of many upvotes

He bought into Chuckie Mullins’ number 38, if you think anything will be different you are deluding yourself.

I could go either way with retiring numbers, but 2 more Heismans would be awesome and I welcome that problem.

5 shouldn’t be retired. Burrow and Cannon won titles as well as the Heisman, Jayden did not.

I think it has alot to do with how Lane and his staff address it. If they come out and say that the #7 and #18 are important to LSU history, acknowledge that its lost some of its luster, and push to restore the culture that makes #7 and #18 special, then it's more than worht it. We remember who we were so we understand where we've come from and learn from our mistakes. If we aren't going to do that, then we should just let the tradition go.

Jonathon Giles killed #7. All he ever did was call for a fair catch receiving a punt and never amounted to anything at receiver
