We'd have gotten in in 2018 as well. We were ranked 11th in the final CFP poll

Maybe... but that poll would have been different, too. Nobody really cared about teams below #4 because of the playoffs.

For example, Washington State (at the time still a P5 team) was 10-2 and ranked 13, below Florida, LSU and Penn State- all 9-3. I doubt they get left out, even though they lost to Washington the final weekend.
That final weekend, Washington State (10-1) and LSU (9-2) both lose, and Florida and Penn State (8-3) both win. WSU lost to Washington, who moved up to #9, so that's not a bad loss. LSU lost to A&M, who then entered the poll at #19... not terrible, not great.
Florida actually dropped a spot despite beating FSU.

Drop Penn State, and that means SEC gets 4 teams, Big 10 only gets 2. Pac 12 gets 2 (with WSU added).

I think Penn State makes it, and the committee picks between 9-3 LSU and Fla... we lost head-to-head, and we lost to A&M that weekend, while they beat Fla State 41-14. So I think we're out.

Eh, I don't think Washington St gets in. The Pac 12 was horrible in 2018. 2 3-loss teams were in their title game. They only finished the year with 2 teams ranked, Washington and Washington St. They were a 1 bid league in a 12 team playoff, just like the ACC would have been last year had SMU beaten Clemson in the ACC title game.

Penn St's best win entering selection day was against then unranked Iowa, and they had a loss to 7-5 Michigan St.

The SEC was pretty damn stacked in 2018. I think it would have come down to Penn St and Washington St with Penn St getting the nod.

That’s an average of 9-4 (5-3). That is mediocre and exactly what we make fun of Texas A&M for.

Just because people on the Rant think 9-4 (5-3) is mediocre doesn't mean it actually is mediocre. Most people on the internet trying to argue use inappropriate adjectives thinking that helps their arguments. I promise you winning 65% of your SEC games is not mediocre if we are actually using the term as it is defined. If you want to say that it isn't elite, then sure. But there is a large area in between elite and mediocre. Mediocre is what Ole Miss has been since 2014. They're 88-53 overall and 47-48 in the SEC. I hope you can see the difference in what actual mediocrity is and what you perceive mediocrity to be.

If you exclude the one magical 2019 season

And why would you do that? Can we remove the playoff appearances from the other 10 teams with only one appearance? Or are we only doing that with LSU?

I honestly wish LSU could be mediocre so our younger fans actually knew what it looked like.

2006 and 2012 could’ve easily won it all with this current system in place. Especially 2006. They were an absolute juggernaut towards the end. 2012 probably wins it all anyway if we have honey badger.

I remember the 90s well. 9 wins in the 90s wasn’t mediocre. It is now.

9-4 means you win nothing.

The point of this long paragraph being, how much slack should we logically give BK? If this year's team is a top 10 team but not a top 3 team and next year is a top 20 team but he is still recruiting at a high level, is it more reasonable to just keep hoping he can pull something off rather than clamor for the axe?

Not getting into the playoff this year would be a failure. He is not in jeopardy of losing his job anytime soon but it would he would be running on 3 straight seasons where he failed to live up to expectations. He went into this season with expectations of reaching the playoff. Not reaching the playoff would be another disappointment. Can't live off 1st year SEC Championship appearance forever.

Playoffs are different than bcs era.

Could argue competing for the sec in the bcs era was competing for a nation title.

03, 05, 06, 07, 2010, 2011, 2012.

All playoff teams.

I agree with this, but 2020 and 2021 are drastically skewing the results. I am not saying you can ignore those two seasons, but 11 wins over two seasons is a huge outlier.

1. Alot more than 95% of the schools.

2. You're a dipshit.

Again, you don’t know what mediocre means. Clearly

I can all but guarantee you we’ve been at worst a top 15 program in this time frame you’re looking at. A top 15 program is not mediocre. It may not be as good as you think it should be. But, again, that’s not what mediocre is

There was a CFP ranking in 2018, and LSU was #11 in that ranking. All the AQs were ranked in the top 12, so LSU would have made the playoffs.

There's a lot of this fanbase that has trouble grasping what you are saying, but you're right.

Without looking more closely into it, I think we were top-4 in:
01
03
04 - 07
10 - 12
16
18 - 19
22
23 (tied with 3 others at 6-2; but we beat Mizzou which puts us in 4th place)

That's 14 out of 25.

Would've been in '02 had Mauck not been injured.

Man that 2011 defense was good. The wins were so impressive. 13-1 and the 1 will haunt me forever.

01 team beats every team not named Miami in a 12 team playoff that year.

And maybe Florida. Spurrier seemed to have Sabans number.

Regardless I loved that 01 team. Gave me my first taste of LSU winning some type of championship. And it was awesome.

2006 was absolutely robbed by the refs at Auburn. Should have been a rematch with UF in Atlanta. And even the loss to UF was freaky. I recall the refs taking an early LSU touchdown off the board for a phantom holding call and the rest of the game was LSU shooting itself in the foot. Bunch of goofy turnovers if I recall and the game was still competitive until late.

Bama was a dynasty. Georgia was not. 2 titles in however many years Kirby has been there does not= 6 titles in around 10 years with Saban at Alabama.

Well, we went 13-0 then competed (sort of) for the championship in 2011 and everyone wanted to fire the coach…so there’s that.

Yeah, rightfully so, too. That was the worst coached game I’ve ever had the misfortune of watching in my life. Les Miles’ nosedive started that night. You can sunshine pump if you want, but that game was an absolute atrocity!
