The college sports model is now a business. We are paying top dollar to see LSU win championships now. Sorry, this is not the '60s, '70s, '80s, or even '90s anymore. The university and TAF could not care less who is buying the tickets now. The fans who are ponying up for the tickets should expect NC for the prices they are having to pay.

"Nobody's making them pay. They don't have to go to games."

But they are. This is the model that colleges want. They want me to pay to fund women's basketball, women's soccer, and swimming and diving...Fine. I want a crystal ball.

In professional sports it is normal to consider a season a failure unless you win the ultimate prize such as a Championship. Yet when LSU fails and people have this mentality people start claiming how horrible they must be. LSU is one of probably 10-15 Teams that yearly has a legit shot at a National Title and if you look at polls over past 10-15 seasons you see really all the teams that won started in Top 15 (Think Auburn and LSU 03 are only two that did not) so why shouldn't fans feel a bit slighted when they fail to win a NC? (Although there is an extreme cases BOTH ways on this and we've seen both sides on the Rant)

You're right. There is zero diff between professional athletes and collegiate athletes that can practice a maximum time of 20 hours a week.
It's funny that the BEST COACH IN CFB has lost a game year , EXCEPT ONCE , yet we expect Miles to be perfect.

Ha. Yeah ok. LSU has won 10 games 6/ 8 years. IT'S LITERALLY NEVER HAPPENED IN THE SEC. Let alone at LSU. Winning 10 games in the HARDEST DIV ,IN THE HARDEST CONF, is not easy.

Say what you want about Les Miles, but the man is a recruiter, and year in and year out he's got the horses to win the NC, and that wasn't always the case with LSU.

No one that I know personally begrudges him for the losses, but the first one of the season is always rough and it just gets tougher when the loss happens later in the season because the expectations are so high by then. I still spent this season with last year's NC loss to Bama in my mind. Next year I think I'll be able to enjoy the season a little more.

We might lose 2-3 games next year, but we could win them all, and it would be all kinds of wonderful if we do. But the following year the playoffs start, and for better teams like LSU year in and year out, that will only help with player motivation.

I'm bothered by exactly the opposite i.e. losers and Dinardo sympathizers who settle for anything less than a national championship. These are the types of people who would be happy to just get to play on Jeopardy, get their dumb asses beaten, go home with the complimentary lifetime supply of Spam and live in ignorant bliss for the rest of their meaningless lives! We are elite, 10 wins without a championship sucks!

It's not NC or bust for me. It's two simple things: 1) watching those bastards in Alabama enjoy a dynasty in the middle of what's supposed to be LSU's football golden age. And yes I've hated Alabama long before Saban was there. 2) our offense makes the games unfun to watch. This year featured both of these issues.

Not sure anyone is really arguing that LSU has blown some opportunities and needs to fix the offense. But what does that have to do with the "NC or Bust" mentaltiy? LSU could very well fix their offensive woes, win 12 games and still not win a NC. Does that make the season a total failure?

Of course not. Who is saying this though? It's not a NC or bust mentality as much as it is watching a team that is better under performing. Try as some pumpers might, the Bama game was lost by coaching and LSU was under a minute away from getting to play scrimmage against Not Damn.

Even if LSU didn't get to play in the NC, I believe almost all LSU fans would consider 2012 a success because of beating Bama. Instead, it was capped with a loss, AGAIN by coaching, to Clemson in the fricking Chikin Bowl.

All you can do when someone wants to lump the same expectations on college players that are placed on pro players is just shake your head and smile at their cluelessness.

It's more than a tad amusing to me that we sit in our homes/offices on our p/cs with nothing better to do than waste our time posting on a sports forum bout the failures of LSU football when our program in the last 8 yrs is more successful than it's ever been before in our history and one of the very must successful in BCS/SEC football.

You gonna came here with a sense of humor, huh.

I expect a National Championship contender as much as possible, but I hate these half-assed, cocky, general studies degree alumni who feel like they're entitled to so much more. Most programs would kill to be LSU right now. The only ones who wouldn't are the people at LSU's level. Arkansas wanted Miles. Michigan wanted Miles (regardless of what they claim now). We are winning 10+ games a year. This is the top of the mountain, and all everyone does is complain.

Then there's the guy I overheard in the Superdome one year after his high school went 15-0 and won the state title. He said, "Yeah, we won the title and all but we could have beaten most of our opponents by larger margins."

I detest "all or nothing" mentality. Many people still think of the Buffalo Bills as losers becuase they lost four Super Bowls.

I don't believe the NC or bust mentality is healthy for anyone associated with college football: coaches, players or fans.

There are greater reasons for playing that need to be acknowledged and respected. Otherwise you will find it difficult to find happiness and satisfaction with what you are doing and the time you invest in college football.

That being said, I would be happier if all elements of LSU's football team played at a consistent, higher level of quality. It's not fun to watch games where it feels like we are lucky to win, EVERY time. More frequent dominating performances would be appreciated, even against "lesser" opponents.

I am. Only one team gets to raise that trophy a year. Doesn't make you a failure if you come up a few plays short.
