Duop Reath is in with the Australian team. Naz Reid is invited to try out for USA. Any others?

Simmons could’ve and would’ve been on Australian team if nothing for obvious reasons.

I don’t consider him a former LSU tiger!! Weak and was just here putting in his time to go pro, didn’t put forth any kind of effort! He was a distraction to the team!

Is that his fault that he was forced to attend college for a year? LSU sure as shite didn’t have a problem using his image and likeness to market the program.

Naz is not trying out for the team, the team is already set. He should get to play in a scrimmage against the Olympic team.

If you truly believe anyone can put up the numbers he put up at LSU with no effort you’re completely ignorant about basketball and college sports in general. And if he was just a distraction to the team why did they drop in total wins by 9 and SEC wins by 9 when he left?

This idiotic narrative needs to die.

For starters, Quarterman and, to an extent, Sampson were way more of distractions that season than Simmons. And want to talk about lack of effort, Quarterman was the poster child for that on most nights.

Second, Johnny had no clue how to coach that team. Definitely a top 5 talent roster in last 2 decades and couldn’t even make the tourney.

Third, you may want to ask Wade his opinion as head of the program on Simmons. He just talked about it on Jordy’s show last week and had a lot of flattering things to say about Simmons and his connection that he still has with the program.

Never seen a player like Simmons be more misused by a coach. We had the shooters to go with him but instead of giving him the ball he stuck him on the block and tried to make him a post scorer. He’s an NBA point guard, he was our best ball handler and one of the best passers in program history yet Jones used him as a 4 most of the time. The team with CJ and Shaq will always be our biggest underachieving squad but the Simmons team is a very close second in that regard.

I can think of 50 players who played for the Tigers who were better ball handlers and passers. Simmons was good for a big man but overall . . . nah! Johnny tried to play him under the basket because that is where the TEAM needed him as we had no big men. However anyone who watched those games know that he was at the top of the key behind the three point line far more than he was posted down. And to have a guy who couldn't and wouldn't shoot a three playing there was a joke. Almost all of Simmons points came on fast break layups, free throws or offensive putbacks. Once our opponents realized he was no threat from three, they just jammed the lane with a bunch of bodies and made his driving ineffective.

You can’t name 50 better ball handlers or passers and your description of how he was used is wrong. For example when defenders played way off of him it worked for us. He’d get a running start. Put guys on their heels and was a the rim before anyone could react. Early on he did have the ball up top a lot and though we had a couple of tough close losses the team was improving but midway through SEC play the decision to have TQ become the primary ball handler started the downward trend and it came fast. We lost 6 of our last 9 SEC games after an 8-2 start.

He wasn’t.

The “TEAM” needed to play to its strengths and we had Craig Victor to play on the block. Do you see Will Wade using a lot of post ups? Seems to do fine without it and we didn’t need Simmons doing it while he was here either. We had 4 pro perimeter guys to spread the court for Simmons to drive and kick but we did the opposite and that’s why it didn’t work.

You’re insane if you think Simmons isn’t one of the 50 best ball handlers/passers in LSU’s history.

You’re right MM and my bad. He’s on the team picked as the practice squad for our Olympic team. There’s been occasions where players were elevated but only in unseen and very rare last minute situations. Still it’s a good feather in Naz’s hat. He does make quite an inspirational story of personal work, belief, and dedication who we got to see in a Tiger uniform though. Geaux Team USA, Geaux Tigers and Geaux Naz Reid.
