re: How long does Ole Woody give McMahon to right the ship? Looks like a repeat for next year.

I can’t believe there are people in here saying he’s gone in the next year or two if we don’t compete in the SEC. Apparently everyone but some of our fans understand this rebuild will likely be a slow burn and will take a few seasons to build back up.

In my opinion a lot of it revolves around when the penalties for basketball are handed down. Then the clock starts.

What penalties? Expound.

This is not really the case in the landscape. Most BB teams turn over every year.

Juice Hill and Adam Miller have been the biggest problem for this team. We needed a good point guard and a good shooter for this team to do well. They have both done much worse than expected. KJ is the only player that has met expectations. Hannibal has slightly exceeded it. The problems with Hannibal and KJ are that neither is a good passer. Hill was supposed to be our passer, but his game has declined. Maybe the personal matters are at fault. Maybe he gets it resolved and returns to help to make us better.

Maybe next year’s freshman actually produce. Chest and Mike Williams are pretty high recruits. If Ward and Phillips start producing, and Reed continues to improve, and Miller, Justice Williams, Fountain and Hayes continue to improve, and we get a transfer point guard and shooter, then we can be very good next year. I think the youngsters and returning players are good enough if we get those two fixed, we will be good next year. If additionally KJ returns as a graduate, which is a long shot, unless a big NIL keeps him, then we will be near the top of the SEC.

Anyone would have said at least 3, I thought he did an outstanding job coming in when he landed. He built a roster and recruited 3 top 80 prospects to go along with transfers but they are not very good. His track record is outstanding but for 3 years he literally had one of the best players in world today playing 25 games a year in a weak conference. I hope it’s just not a Cam/Chizick Dumbo/Jameis situation.

I don’t believe it is I’m a firm believer it just takes 2 studs to shoot to the top in MBB, but it’s also hard to get them to commit if you can’t win games to show said commits something. You can only live off reputation so long in Todays college sports. The hardest thing to CMM right now is the facts:
CBK- dumpster fire to 10wins, SECW title yr1
CKM- dumpster fire to 26-6, now #3 19-0
CJJ - decent program, ranked #1 CBB in year2
I think he’s the right choice it’s just you don’t have time to do it in today’s game as you did even 6 years ago, at Murray St he was awarded time, he’s in Big Boy Basketball now

I agree with your first paragraph but the second one is the same old overhyping and hoping that we get every year only to have our hopes dashed. The loss of KJ will be huge and our rebounding will only get worse. While improvement can always be hoped for, we have not only not seen any game to game improvement as the season has gone on but actually I think we have gotten worse.

Miller is a good player who hustles and gives effort but his offensive ability is not what it was supposed to be. He would have been much better on another team where he could sit in the corner or wing and wait for the wide open three. If he is face guarded he can't get a shot off. He can't shoot off the dribble coming around a screen and has no driving game. We need new players next year who can get their shot on their own as well as using the screen game.

4 years minimum. Would set a horrible precedent to fire Mcmahon before that.

Eh no signs of life in year 2 and it’s really not an uncommon precedent

I agree, but not every program has the NCAA looming over it waiting to hand out whatever infractions they eventually do. I’m not sure how much that has played into recruiting, but it’s definitely had something to do with it.

Losing KJ will impact our offense the most, but he is not our best rebounder. Coleman and Fountain are already better, and Reed and Phillips should get much better as they get stronger. So I think our rebounding will be fine without KJ. The big question is replacing his offense. Reed is showing promise. We have a couple of other bugs that could fill the need, but the best bet is improved guard play. If we miraculously get Ian Jackson, then we just need a point guard. Maybe one of our current guards will improve enough to take over the point guard position, but I’m hoping for a transfer.

Didn't Ian Jackson commit to UNC a week or two back?

The roster will look much better and be more competitive next year. There weren't many options coming into this year. High level players in the portal weren't coming here last year with all uncertainty after the Wade firing. We should be able to land a much higher caliber of player next year.

I New no he is not really that good of an AD. He’s just willing to spend absurd amounts of money to hire coaches and then people act like he is some wizard.

He’s the same guy that gave Jimbo an awful contract. He’s been as bad as he has been good. He hired Mulkey and that’s great but she’s from here, so for enough money she was going to come. Johnson is still nothing special from a proven stand point. We will see in the next year or two if it was even a good hire. Gymnastics looks like it is regressing. Still hasn’t fixed track and field.

He’s a decent but not amazing AD. Give him a restrained (to an extent) budget and he is as mediocre as most other mediocre ADs.

We won’t get anything since woody self imposed the death penalty

Coach Kelly has done amazing, but his situation wasn't as bad as CMM's. He still had some talented players that hadn't transferred out. CMM had to start from nothing. Also, Kelly didn't have the possible sanctions scaring away players.

Coach Mulkey is one of, if not the greatest woman's coach, so that alone attracted talent. She also doesn't have sanctions scaring away players.

CMM has had the biggest challenges, so he deserves a little more patience. His reputation was pretty good, but there were doubts due to the competition, so that reputation wasn't enough to draw top talent, but he still drew what seemed to be good talent. With that said, if players regress, he may lose the benefit of that consideration due to the situation he walked in to.

Let’s see started with the roster that had zero players and was a fricking dumpster fire because of the previous coach!!!!! I’d say you better look for another two years.

He’s never going to be successful at LSU so the smart move is to unload him asap. The only problem is Woody doesn’t give a shite about basketball so the likely outcome will be he and McMahon burying the program completely.

Woody is an average AD

What is it that you want him to do differently? WBB, baseball, and football will all compete for national championships.. with coaches he hired

Who would’ve wanted to take this men’s bball job? I’m willing to give McMahon more than half a season before calling him a bust

I just don’t understand why so many people hate on Woody when he’s doing exactly what he’s paid to do
