In the nfl for sure. He was so freakish he was an elite safety in college, but linebacker was his future as a pro.

Was he like 6’3 225 running a low 4.4 ?

He was overrated at lsu. He should have been an LB.

Good in the box but lacked range. Was kinda before his time when they didn’t know exactly how to use tho guys. Would have been better served as an LB

At the combine he measured at 6’2” 221 lbs and ran a 4.65.

He wasn’t a burner but he had good football instincts, took good angles, tackled well.. basically he put himself in positions where he didn’t have to outrun guys. One of the question marks was how he would hold up in man coverage at the next level.

That said, I loved watching him play. It’s really unfortunate that we didn’t get to find out what he could do in the NFL.

Its hard to ever say one player single handedly wins football games because of the nature of the sport but he came a close to that as you can for a defensive player in that 2009 Moo State game

He absolutely willed LSU to the win that day. I want to say on that goalline stand he made the score saving play on 3 of the 4 downs.

Lord. Strong safeties have existed for quite a while, and he was in the league before everyone went cover 1 happy.

Chad Jones is criminally underrated at this point,

He’s overrated. No way he could have started in the NFL at DB. Perhaps he would have made a go of it at LB. LSU had pitchers who were much faster than Jones.

He had a knack, though, and that made him a very good college safety. Remember, he was a third round pick. While you can say the same for Matheiu, that was due to a drug and self-discipline problem. Jones just didn’t have second round talent.

His game on the road at Miss State is one of the GOAT Tiger performances. And he did it on D and special teams.

Would have had a helluva professional career in both football and baseball, if not for that terrible automobile accident that almost cost him his life. He was so good at football and one helluva great pitcher with that wicked curveball and speed.

As always you and Lester don't know wtf you are talking about. Players make plays. That's the way it has always been. How many combine freaks have panned out? Chad Jones would have been a game changer in the NFL, just as he was at every level he ever played.
