He comes off as a goofball but good lord…UGA has been top tier since he got there. If I could have any coach in college football that would be the one. I have no idea how they lost to Auburn but it’s rare and they’re always relevant.

You know I was thinking last night how Mark Richt always had talented teams and he would choke in big games. He would pull stunts like having the team all run on the field and wearing all black - gimmicky stuff.

Kirby just focuses on the fundamentals. He’s a good coach - but he had good players from the start.

His teams are a pleasure to watch. Always very good on the line of scrimmage, prioritize being able to run the football, and very physical. They play football as it was meant to be played.

Granted it was a different era, but it still him 6 years to win his first championship. And he wasn’t exactly taking over a dumpster fire program that had to be completely rebuilt. I agree he’s the top coach in the game right now but still takes time to build a great culture like he has.

Kirby is the only coach from the Saban tree with the chops to duplicate the Process. He also coached alongside Saban longer than any other. Probably the only assistant coach who Saban ever fully trusted.

Of all of Nick Sabans former assistants when he was at lsu Kirby was probably the last person I thought would turn out to be the best. He always had a baby face with a bowl haircut and just never impressed me. I always thought Will muschamp would be a superstar but he turned out to be a bust. But for whatever reason Kirby just has what it takes to be the best coach in college football.

Took Kirby a couple of years to get Georgia going

Georgia doesn't really have a wow factor, but they are brutally efficient. Kirby won't ever be a Saban, but he is a damn good coach.

I don’t know what his knack is for retaining & keeping players / coaches…but he seems to be very good at it.

The level of consistency is becoming Saban’esque. Its what I’ve always yearned for this program to achieve but we’re about as bipolar as all others. Hoping lane can be the one to have success and continue it.

Let’s not forget that in his first few years he struggled in close games. Back then no-one feared his in-game, big game management. He improved and now those early struggles are never talked about.

Did you see him rip his player who missed an assignment up 28-0….he coaches hard, holds his guys accountable on the field and knows the importance of DL/OL dominance! He learned from
saban for how many years?
Now off the field maybe different but it’s hard to control 120 guys who suddenly have a lot of money and time to get into street racing….

Everything about being a HC he learned from the master Saban.Nick retired when NIL and Portal came along(he lost his advanges of HIS coaching style)

New age HC Kerby Smart was,is much better at managing the new age NIL and Portal.

One important thing not mentioned here is it took him six seasons to win his first title at Georgia.

Before that, there was a ton of jeering at Georgia with the “1982” plug.

Furthermore, it was Alabama preventing them from winning it all multiple times until they finally broke through.

This board would’ve wanted to fire him after his first season

He’s one of the greatest coaches of all time. Go look at Bama’s best championship runs; Kirby was the DC.
