You really don’t understand how a coach with zero college coaching experience could be a risk? Really?
So he can’t teach or develop players? You really don’t know college coaching. I’m sure people like Bo Davis, Nick Saban, Pete Jenkins and others didn’t teach him a thing that he can teach these kids. He actually has more experience than Ed Orgeron did when he started coaching at U M. It isn’t like he is alone. He has another DL coach that can help him with the administrative portion of his job.
Experience comes from years of doing something.

Holy shite dude quit putting words in peoples mouths. I never said that. I have no idea how well he can develop college players. Neither do you.

No one is saying this. We just aren’t saying you should hire guys because they had good coaches.

NFL star for over a decade op,you truly are a dumbass troll.

Nobody knows for sure if any coach will work out. However, Williams has a potential HOF resume in the NFL, loves LSU, and knows D Line coaching and development. Seems like a great fit to me.

Building relationships and recruiting pitches doesn’t mean jack crap to these recruits nowadays. So all Williams will have to worry about is how much $$$ LSU will be willing to fork over to get Mr. Five Star DL.

He could've hired Kyle Williams as an analyst and hired pat Kuntz as the d line coach

These BK haters are just like the Left with TDS. Your negative views on the leader (Head coach or President) will make you complain about anything they do and refuse to even consider that your hatred is clouding your judgement of reality,

We will know because he made it 10 yrs in the NFL and made the pro bowl.

While you can't say the hire is without risk due to the absence of coaching experience on his resume people are leaving out some important context here. This isn't just hiring a former college legend who has been coaching some high school ball in his hometown. He has been coaching at close to the highest levels of high school football for a team that has spent time in national polls who not only played the best competition in Louisiana but regular played highly ranked teams from other states. During his time there Ruston became known for their defenses especially their D-Line. They were often in the conversation for best defense in the state. He personally coached and developed multiple power 5 (4) D-Lineman while at Ruston. If you spend anytime around Louisiana high school football coaches the talk about Ruston lately is that not only were they talented but had elite coaching on defense. Throw in his amazing career (which wasn't far off HOF worthy) where he was known more as a tactician than a freak talent and this hire starts to really solidify.

If Kyle Williams can teach what he knows and what he did to be a future NFL HOF then he will be fine. With Peeples and Baker there to help he'll be successful. Not to mention what he learned from his DL coaches while at LSU and NFL..

This is exactly what you’re saying in the typical backhanded way. Instead of just spewing something, LISTEN to this interview and what Sean says about on and off the field mentoring of younger players. Teaching, leading, behaviors…. What the hell do you think “developing” means? Are you saying he doesn’t have the technical skills or isn’t capable of recognizing weaknesses after 14 years of playing at an extremely high level against the very best competition? Are you saying he never watched game film of other teams? 13 minutes of what he brought to the table and transition he was leading for others to take over…

He HAS been a leader and he learned that from all of these great coaches and mentors he has had. [

I guess it depends on the person, not the former coaching job.
My high school football coaches were, except for the head coach, complete knuckleheads. But none of them were first team all Americans in college followed by 13 years playing in the NFL including six Pro Bowls.

Because DL Coach is one of the easiest position coach spots in all of Football. There is no coverage techniques that need to be taught. No man coverage drills or techniques.
It's either gap reads, or contain. The most difficult part is getting players to understand "staying home" on option teams or zone runs or God forbid a rushing QB. Looking at Brad Davis last year.
Some of yall think this is rocket science, and it's checkers at best.
BTW, every DL coach has a built in excuse. The DC. He's the one ultimately calling the plays. None of you blamed Brad Davis last year when Bama ran all over us. The blame was on the DC. None of you blamed Steeples for our DEs over pursuing. Yall blamed the DC.

You seem to be leaving out a huge part of his resume

He knows ins and out of DL

lol, DL is extremely technical

I know his name is an LSU legend but if you step back and remove your purple glasses, LSU is hiring a high school coach as a position coach.
Why is everyone so sure it’s a great hire?
No one with any sense can be sure. But I give him a better chance than most HS coaches because of elite college experience and being a top level player for 13 NFL seasons. Its not like they are hiring just any HS DL coach

He just retired a few years ago and started at high school level to get a feel for coaching, this is a promotion and I’ll take a guy getting a promotion over a guy taking a demotion any day

Yes, but how many of them were undersized and still were all pro for 6 years?. And how many are great leaders and motivators? I hope he becomes one of the most successful coaches in LSU history by the time he retires. Only time will tell but I'm optimist. He's a fighter, smart, successful and motivated. Like Bob Sieger sang about, "The Fire Inside"
