I feel good, not great, but I would have said the same before Bradford left. It's imperative that we have a good running game to keep the defense honest and our qbs off their back. We've got talent at the position, and I think the offensive line will do a good job of run blocking. I do believe Cain will play a bigger role than people thought when he was brought in, and Goodwin can be great in this offense if he can stay healthy.

We are gonna be fine unless we have injuries.
Emery is primed to breakout.
Cain will show his talent.
Goodwin is there to mix it up as well.
Wish we had Bradford as well as it seemed he had that big play ability but we also have a solid backup in Josh Williams.
As long as 2 of those guys are healthy we will be serviceable. I really do think Cain/Emery can turn into workhorses though.

Cain and emery likely gone,

Why do you say this?
If talking about losing to the draft both will need to have very solid seasons without injury to declare. Do agree we still need one portal back after this season though.

Three NFL backs, huh? Where can I get some of that p&g koolade? At best, serviceable SEC backs. And, behind our OL, the running game scheme had better be creative. So far Emery has shown to be a three star ability, no where near the Five star he was rated. I haven’t seen much of the other three but heard only the dreaded word “potential”. IMHO we will have to establish the pass to run effectively.

Must be reasonably solid at the top for Bradford to know he needed to leave to get touches

We have solid depth, even without Bradford. I don’t know if we have 3 running backs that could currently make an NFL roster, but we at least have one.

Running back seems on shakey footing, no pun intended this season.

Ideally I'd like to see something like Emery get twice as many carries as Goodwin and Cain combined but Cain and Goodwin getting alot of short yardage and goal line looks.

We do not have to “feel” anything about the position because there is plenty of depth there with RBs that are very talented.

This is a retarded non sequitur by a retarded poster.
so you used “retarded twice in the same sentence because you’re unintelligent and uninformed. In the 68+ years of listening to and watching LSU football, I can say more often than not that LSU has gone through many many SEASONS with a featured back than not where the offense was running the football FAR MORE than today.
Look no further than 2019 where a small Clyde Edwards-Hellaire carry the load the entire season. Knowing there is little to know chance off reaching the SEC Championship game this season, I “FEEL” great about the position with 3 excellent choices at RB besides the guys you have no fricking clue that are on the roster who played RB.

Won’t feel good until they prove it. Probably the most disappointing position on the team the last 2 years. Maybe the OL was to blame some but we didn’t look good and it’s a lot of the same guys plus an injured Cain who chose to not come here previously.

I’m hopeful but not excited.

If they have no Oline to block for them then none of them stand a chance period.

No RB in history can elude 4-5 men in their face right when he’s handed the ball except maybe Barry Sanders

Or Clyde Edwards-Helaire playing against the 2019 Alabama defense

RB could be like last year with QB in the bowl game.
No depth and based on history of performance and durability, none stand out as anything special. But better than TE which is close to a void position.

I don’t know if Emery is “obviously” the #1 RB. There’s going to be a competition and there is a lot more to the RB position than raw athleticism.

That being said, I’m hopeful about Emery. He is downright scary when he gets into the open field. Even if he doesn’t turn into our “every down” primary RB, he has the potential to be an excellent change-of-pace back.

It’s just so hard to judge him based on the 2020 season. Between the vanilla running schemes, the awful run blocking, and the weird decisions with our RB rotation I don’t know what to think. Emery did average 5 ypc on the year.

I like to think CBK and Denbrock will be able to get more out of our running game in general than Ensminger and Peetz did. But it really all hinges on how this OL comes together.

I’m not that concerned about RB depth as long as Cain can come in and be productive. If his junior year turns out to be representative of who he is now as an RB, we are going to be pretty thin as you would be relying on Emery and Goodwin, who will likely both be in the rotation regardless of who starts, with Williams and Cain as backups.

If Cain is a legit challenger for the starting spot then I think our depth is fine. Not the best we’ve had in recent years but certainly not the worst. Would feel a lot better in general if Bradford was still here.
