How often is it possible to see a stroke in a relatively young man coming? And, a brain tumor. And a ton of injuries, of which three starters were lost for the season?

Our defense was not good last year, but you are right about it being worse this year. There are lots of reasons, but the very worst thing about the defensive situation is that they have gotten worse as the season has gone on. This is squarely on the coaching staff.

Game after game after game it is obvious the House can't scheme.

What if he had to dummy it down because they can’t run the scheme due to lack of experience?

How could BK and House not see this coming?

I’m fairness. They could not see the leader of the secondary missing the season with a brain tumor.

They could not see the likely starter at CB breaking his leg preseason

Wingo getting hurt and missing half the season wasn’t predicted

It’s unfortunate that Smith has been a shell of himself

Depth was always going to be a problem as BK continues to rebound the roster.

The DL coach was lost right before the season due to illness

House is not a good DC and that isn’t helping the above

We'd be undefeated if we had a mediocre defense.

I wouldn’t call Zy a bust. He was turning into a quality SEC corner before re injury.

Same with Johnson. He isn’t a bust he was injured.

Mediocre would be a massive improvement. I think you meant the worst product in LSU’s history.

I was more referring to the production we got out of them. They offered us 0 production. Zy was serviceable at best for a couple games.

Also when you factor in we lost brooks in 2023 and Speights has been a total 0 at MLB.

It’s just a black hole of nothingness.

Agree with your list. Too much blame has been put on our secondary. We have been poor at many things as you describe. The Dline getting pushed around on run plays, and not getting in the backfield on pass plays has been huge. Poor tackling has killed us. The LBers constantly in the wrong gaps. Failing to set the edge has hurt us.

Perfect storm is a good description.

Difficult but necessary questions OP.

My take:
- To try and counter DT QBs House wants to play more zone. But the schemes are more complex and prone to coverage busts.
- Injuries, e.g., Brooks, Wingo
- Substandard talent especially in the secondary
- Poor fundamentals and lack of effort. This is disheartening.
- Expecting Perk to compensate for the poor DL play and inexperience in the secondary. This takes our one difference maker and self-neutralizes him.

It's easy to blame it all on House. But IMO, this is 100% on CBK. When you hire a HC with 30+ years of HC'ing experience, you don't expect these types of rookie mistakes.

Nah not wrong at all

When you get pushed around, get no pressure and you can’t tackle that’s a personnel problem

This isn’t jr high football

This doesn't make any sense and most definitely doesn't prove your point

Makes perfect sense.

They don’t get pressure on the qb
They can’t tackle in space
They get pushed off the Los

Which tells me the other guy is better.
Sure technique plays a role but being the bigger “dawg” wins the day

Sorry that doesn’t make any sense to you.
Pretty elementary football concepts.

Simply put, they forces out the only defensive coach worth a damn in both coach and recruiting for a DC that hates recruiting and other coaches that are just bad.

House is responsible for this mess in every way.

Harris was a troublemaker and somehow was magically expected to change?

Johnson was injured, yes, but so was his tOSU teammate last year.

Chestnut was always undersized and overrated. Anyone could see his limitations.

Alexander is not Garner. Not near the size or athletic ability and played in a much worse level of competition. Alexander has been awful all season against FBS competition outside of one half versus an option offense in Army. He is not even 3rd strung SEC level talent. Kid tries hard, but simply has no business at this level.

We are slow. Can't tackle. Take bad angles and don't play with fire. There's a lot to fix. Hopefully this freshman class plus this seasons freshmen/team will improve.

Exactly.. Don’t have the dogs

I’ve been on this board for a long time……..
There’s always been a segment of posters who refuse to blame players.
It’s ALWAYS the coaches fault. .. unless of course it’s a qb or kicker. … or DJ welter.
Everybody else it’s the coach.

Hell Brian Kelly said himself if you’ve watched any postgame and or pregame talks to his team that
They’ve been coached and are prepared …..it’s time for them to execute…. Be “elite” “good isn’t good enough”

We don’t have the guys to dominate like we have in the past.
It’s ok to admit it .

Terrified to pressure the QB to protect DBs, when they need to pressure the QB to protect the DBs.
