Bro my eye test was the fact that the team won the national title and in many games the offense was stagnant.

That was not the case with 2023 lsu. We put up ample points to win every game. We couldn’t stop anyone

Every metric available says you are wrong. They were average. Nothing more. That’s just all Cam and their offense required.

Just going by ESPN they were down 17 at the half, but with 8 minutes left in 2nd quarter they were down 24.

I remember that game. Bama tried to out Auburn with pace early on and wore out their own team. You could see the energy shifting towards the end of the first half.

As good as Jayden was/is, Cam Newton at Auburn was better. Cam was a one-man wrecking crew and with Malzahn calling the hurry-up offense with him at QB, he was pretty much unstoppable. When you did stop him, he showed his superman, and became otherworldly. Pat Peterson runs a low 4.3 40 and I watched Cam pull away from him in the game that year on a TD run. The Iron Bowl that year, Bama was up 24-0. Didn't matter, Cam leads the comeback to win 28-27.

He's in the list of the top college players of all time for a reason.

I love LSU and I love Jayden. I hate Auburn, but you have to give credit where it's due and Cam was different. Think Jayden level speed and quickness, but an inch taller and 35-40lbs heavier.

Cam was much larger QB and ran quite a bit, probably more so than Jayden. However, Jayden is a much better passer.

Auburn had a couple of starters suspended for the 1st half. Don't recall specifics but it seemed to make difference with them in, in the 2nd half.

As misey notes just above, their D was avg. Fairley is in the GOAT conversation but everyone else was nothing special.

You could flip-flop names and be more accurate. Jayden was a demonstrably better passer in CFB and in the NFL. And Jayden is faster than Cam was was. Cam was bigger which helps in some rushing situations but otherwise it's all advantage Jayden.

Finally, Can didn't pull away from PP7. He was caught at about the 10 but his size and momentum got him across the goal line.

I too will give Can credit where due. That was one of the all-time great runs in SEC history and we had some good players on D he did it against.

lol. That’s a take. Better athlete? Maybe. Jayden is already 10 times the QB cam ever was. He was never very accurate and mechanics were shite his whole career.

The defense won auburn more games that season that Can Newton did.

I’m not taking away from what Cam did. He WAS their offense but it’s not like they were blowing teams away. The defense absolutely won then the MS state, LSU and Alabama games that year and played a major part in the Clemson and Georgia games.

I would bet the house if Jayden had a 24-0 lead on ANY TEAM, including that Cam team, they would be toast.

I would say it would be harder to defend Jayden than Cam given that Jayden is a 10 times better passer than Cam ever was. Especially in college.

I would have upvoted you if you had correctly used the word “dominant” and not “dominate”.

This site has taught me that there’s millions of grown adults out there who apparently don’t know the difference between dominate and dominant.

Holy shite this is a garbage take. 2023 LSU defense was historically bad. That’s the ONLY reason we didn’t coast to a National championship.
