I have never seen so many mistakes on special teams in a season in my life not even a middle school flag football team makes that many mistakes. How can LSU keep Brian around for Recruiting and not coaching Special Teams?

There are recruiters just as good. Not a Polian fan so send him packing. Just ask any University of Nevada fan how happy they were when he got canned there.

He better be the best recruiter LSU has seen.

His units have cost LSU chances to win vs FSU, TN, GA. Cant beat good teams with mistakes leading to points.

never hated a coach more personally.

I am waiting for the announcement of his re-assignment if not termination. I have watched CFB for decades but cannot recall an instance in which the special teams had such a huge hand in every single loss. Good freaking riddance to Brian Polian.

No unit is affected by poor depth more than special teams. Everyone should have known they would have issues going in.

That being said, they were a mess this year and it needs to get corrected quick.

I think all coaches will be evaluated at the end of the season. This is how I would rank them:
House B+ - A- patchwork group with very little depth

Denbrock - C I really questioned a lot of calls including substitution of Daniels when he was clearly struggling or when LSU was up big. He went conservative with Nuss when he had the chance to let him loose. That speaks of trust to me. That fourth and inches call yesterday, if it was him and not Kelly, was atrocious and really makes me want to give him a D.

Polian - F this is just not understandable. As you could see, when special teams were remotely decent this team won. No excuse.

Davis - B+ - A- Oline really came together and was surprising

Cooks - D the Safeties were terrible

Cain - B- the dline played well with the loss of their best player.

Steeples - C - B- you can tell he has never held that high of a position because at times the corners were the biggest liability. However, considering the lack of depth he did the best he could with what he had.

Hankton C- - D+ Really disappointed in the progression of the group as a whole. The inability to separate at times is on route running and they were unable to go off script.

Wilson - B there are no elite backs on this team and they lost one and the other was injured for a critical game. The fumble issues of his Emery is puzzling.

Sloan ? I’m not sure what has improved or even if this is on him, Denbrock or Kelly. So I can’t rank him.

Kelly A considering building a roster out of nothing and winning the West, this was a very successful season.

I think there are really only few options to go for him to remain on staff.
1) move him to an analyst/advisor recruiting role, which is basically Jordan Arcement’s role. Would you really want 2?
2) keep in his current role but higher a special teams analysis/advisor that reports to Kelly and ensures the team is prepared correctly.

Other than that, he would have to be let go

Just watched the FG disaster for the first time. Polian should have already received this pink slip this morning He has zero business coaching this team. ST has been a dumpster fire all year.

Both snaps were bad, but that first kick was shanked impressively. Gotta do better.

Portal kicker…

I dunno, but how this plays out could tell us a lot about his future here. Les was loyal to Cam and that was his end. Jerry Dinardo had a good thing going and got too loyal to Lou Tepper and that was his end. O loved having his echo chamber around him. I know Polian has been around BK for years but if it’s not clear to him that that guy needs to go, he’s a damn fool.

Doesn’t matter how good of a recruiter someone is when their unit consistently loses the games.

Polian will not be special teams coordinator next year. We can stop fretting about that because Kelly is not stupid. He has been extremely unhappy and has said multiple times that mistakes were on coaching. While he says that falls on him, it falls on him because he has Polian running special teams.

For fricks sake if I wanted shitty play and great recruiting I’d have retained O as a coach.

My son-in-law played for Polian at UNR. He isn’t a fan of the guy.

I think Polian will be fine. People just don’t understand how ST works. LSU needs depth to have a good ST. They simply don’t have it this year. A lot of the guys playing on ST probably would not be on the ST had we had better depth.

As far as the drops earlier in the season, that’s not all on coaching. At some point you have to look at the player. Nabers and Bech were the best they had at the time apparently…Until they found this other guy that has been pretty good.

Polian needs another year. He’s a good coach, and a great recruiter. Once we get some depth, this unit will be fine.

No excuse for the team not defending the blocked field goal. No excuse. This was in the SEC Chamionship, not the pee wee football playoffs.
