Like someone said earlier, Mainieri is not trying to win a regional. He's trying to win one game to avoid embarrassment.

This...Hillard can pitch a complete game only giving up 1 run and we will lose that game

As well as 3 more games in the 36 hours or so immediately after that.

If you’re going to waste a weekend starter on the 4 seed at least pitch Labas so Hilliard can get you to Sunday night

I think Coleman, Hellmers, Edwards, or Floyd could all be candidates to start but we would obviously have to get strong outings from Labas and Hilliard to not burn them all up. Despite what some think I actually think we have the pitching to make it out the losers bracket. But right now its all about the hitting if we are going to have any chance. Doesn't matter how great the pitching is when we can't score.

Hilliard is the last person who should be starting tomorrow if you want to win a regional.

You SHOULD be able to fricking win tomorrow with any pitcher. If you pitch Hilliard tomorrow, 0% chance you win the regional.

Yep. This. I'd rather have Hilliard pitch against a better team and Labas vs. the 4 seed.

Central Connecticut scoring 10 on Oregon must have spooked Paul.

I think we are going to score plenty runs against them and are going to wish we hadn't burned Hilliard.

But in the grand scheme of things what does it matter? LSU pitchers need to get 108 outs in 4 games in 3 days with ZERO of those outs coming from Marceaux (unless he is available Monday, which I doubt). There are not enough reliable arms to get that many outs. It is a 1 in a million proposition.

How do we win the regional if we lose the next game? May be time to bump that that thread

Instead of downvoting and not saying shite, tell me how after you watched game 1 for both teams you think LSU is in any position to throw anyone other than our best remaining...

Look, you and i have gone 9 rounds on this. And not just me, most other posters agree with me, you have to beat all 3 teams in the regional. You have to play matchups if you want to give your team the best chance to win. You can beat central connecticut with labas or hellmers and save hilliard, and thats the best chance to win the regional. Im not sure why thats so hard to grasp. For some reason you are okay pitching off until we lose a game, then you have tunnel vision about the next game only, good for you. Lots of coaches do it different ways.

This is unbelievable stupid. Labas has been struggling hard lately why would you not let him go against an easier opponent and save your good pitcher for next game

Pulmonary has got to go

That doesn't make you right for this team
The bottom line is this team does not have the luxury of assuming wins over any team in this regional. It's really that easy

And I maintain the real best shot to win this regional was to pitch Labas in game 1.

So you would rather win 1 game or 2 and then go home, id prefer to try to win the regional
