Hess goes 6 innings Friday. I'm calling it.

Can we get a separate baseball board until the madness is over?

That's on the list for new boards right below the Will Wade Board.

The batting average against him is .200, and he has 14 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.

He's not getting hit around. But in his first few appearances he was either walking people or behind in the count and having to throw fastballs.

He has an outstanding curveball, and his changeup is a swing and miss pitch, as well. But, he just hasn't been mentally locked in.

I'm in.

-keys to winning this series

1)Limit the big innings
2)Keep their running game in check
3)Work counts and get to their bullpen

ETA I'm putting much more emphasis on his start against a quality lineup

I'm just talking about stuff. He threw strikes against Northwestern. He didn't against Texas. Did Texas hit him around? Not really. He just walked the world.

You don't have to see a pitcher pitch against a great lineup to see what kind of stuff he has. By the way, Texas' lineup is pretty bad.

Adam, how do you think we will be able to slow them down? I've only watched Kentucky a few times this year, but Jaren Shelby is a freak on the bases and a few guys behind him aren't too shabby either.

Yea, he was bouncing the curve that day, and it came out of his hand never having a chance. Resulting in him relying on the elevated fastball that just didn't work against experienced hitters. I think he will be alright, but right now I think I would rather have Hess on the bump for an SEC game. However, Hess is clearly not the answer for a weekend starter so I am just throwing out ideas.

Mathis is like 1/45 on throwing runners out and that one was a pity call in the 8th against Texas when we down like 7 runs. So really he’s at 0%.

I don't think Hess is a 'Friday starter' caliber pitcher and he's had ample opportunities.

I guess every other pitcher on staff has question marks of one sort or another so if nothing else it 'shields' them from unrealistic expectations.

'bout the only positive I can find in this.

All these idiots saying Hess isn’t a Friday starter... - ok got it, so who should be the Friday starter?

Can’t wait to hear this answer, so I can get some good laughs.

I hear you. Our staff is a big pool of question marks at present. I still think it can be an outstanding pitching staff though.
