It's Bertman. You might get a little more respect if you know what you're talking about.

What in the hell is dark about it! We have a nice bowl - the highest payout after the New Year's Six. We will play a respected opponent and the Heisman winner for what that's worth. THe sky has NOT fallen.

Do you really believe they will clean house if LSU went 6-6 or worse next year? I don't believe for one second they will pull the trigger after just one year. I would hope they would but I just don't see LSU being that committed to being a championship program anymore.

hopefully the money will clean house and we will hire a progressive chancellor and a bad arse AD to rebuild another Golden Age of LSU Football.

Only problem is, our money people are part of the larger problem. If we're expecting them to clean house and then hire a competent AD.............

Doesn't bode well for the future of LSU Sports in general.

If you were the AD here and bungled your legacy and the future of LSU by failing to hire Herman, the man who whipped Saban, Fisher, Stoops, and Petrino, you would be just as big a fool as Alleva is. If we had hired Herman/Applewhite and reunited him with Aranda, who thinks he is the finest offensive mind in the FBS, this place would be buzzing with energy and hype. Instead we are bottom feeding and full of uncertainty and have recruits leaving rather than fighting to get in. Herman fit the Bertram model: young, smart, young kids, great family, and for certain he could have built a dynasty to crush and outlast Saban. Herman on the cost of winning: "In order to pay the price, you've got to be willing to invest. Guess what? There's prices for nine-win seasons. There's prices for eight-win seasons and seven-win seasons and six-win seasons. Those prices are a lot easier to pay. And if you're satisfied with going 7-5 and going to the Poulan Weedeater Bowl, you're in the wrong program. We are into building championships here."

That's great and everything but he wanted the Texas job. We do not have Texas money, no one does really. If Texas was and is his dream job and they wanted him as well, the best thing to do is move on. It would have hurt us more to get in a bidding war with Texas over Herman because we would have lost that war and been holding our dicks at the end. You think some recruits are jumping ship now? Yeah add on another month of not even having a head coach in place.

The next option was Fisher. Do you think Fisher was worth 7.5 million+ a year plus a gigantic buyout? I don't, but to each his own.

The next guy could have been PJ Fleck. Sure he's done great at his current job, but he's still an unknown running a big time program.

No, Orgeron would not have been my first choice, but it's not like there are a ton of proven winners waiting around for HC jobs. They already have them.

It's wasn't as though Aleva wanted Miles at the end of last season. What was he going to do, tell F King and Jindal to frick off? Those are his bosses (directly and indirectly). He ate a big pile of shite and was the fall guy. Is he a good AD, not in my book. That being said, blame him for what he actually controlled. As for Herman- that was a pipe dream. He was UT all the way. Jimbo- that was a steep price. It may have been worth it. After last year though, I don't think he was leaving FSU. Fleck...small potatoes but may have been worth it. Give me Canada or another good OC and I am more than willing to go three years and see what happens.

Herman’s agent, Trace Armstrong, works at the same firm that Sexton does.

Armstrong said that LSU could sign Herman for $6 million a year, much less than LSU discussed paying Fisher.

Alleva, who already offered 5+ mm, got mad and "cowardly withdrew his offer in the middle of the night" and hired O.

Herman signed with Texas for $5 million per year. The scout Alleva paid to recommend a coach said Herman was THE MUST-GET. Herman said that the LSU job was a better one than Texas. All we needed was an Emmert or Bertman to step in and say “pay the man”.

They’re both with CAA Sports, who also represents Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, among lots of others.

So the failed ~7 mm offer to Fisher plus huge housing allowance detailed in a headline NOLA story and the Media was already known by Herman when Alleva came calling with "you are our 1st choice".

Bottom line: It is Alleva's sole job to hire the best offensive-minded Coach he could.

He bungled a Legacy Hire, a surefire Dynasty, just like LSU did by not paying Saban 4 million.

He lied straight up to Herman saying he was the #1 choice and gave him an ultimatum and a discounted offer. Very Impressive - Piss down his back and tell him it is raining.

Herman said "oh really, I was #1 " (and that 6.8 mm offer to Fisher was just NOLA headline misprint).

Negotiation 101 - A) Don't lie,

B) Don't give ultimatums to the person you are trying to convince that LSU is the best place for him and his family, professionally and personally: SELL LSU over Tejas

C) Pretend you are Emmert or Bertman

D) You are playing with house money, so stay in the game until the end

"We are getting there fast."

Actually, we may have interrupted the slide into the territory - at least we beat them this year instead of losing to them yet again. Whether O can take us up a notch remains to be seen but at least those little streaks are finished.

Herman was Not coming to LSU this year.

Texas is Herman's dream job. He was determined to get there sooner or later. This was his chance. No matter what LSU had offered, Texas has the money to bid more. The only thing LSU would have accomplished by staying in the game is to cost Texas more money. LSU could have never won the bid war.
That is a sobering fact.

To make you Hermanites even sadder, last year wasn't really much of a possibility either. Everybody in college football knew Charlie Strong was on his last legs at Texas. It was just a matter of time. Herman had a nice deal at Houston with the possibility (slim) for getting UH into the Big 12. That alone was worth hanging around in Houston for another year. It was win/win for Herman. Stay put and wait for Strong to die on the vine and then swoop in or hold pat and bring Houston into the Big 12. That was the landscape in November of last year.

There was no way that Herman was coming to Baton Rouge not last year, not this year. Sorry

Do you still not get that Herman was always going to Texas? We were nothing more than his biggest bargaining chip. If you believe otherwise you're wrong.

I disagree with 90% of Alleva's decisions, but the Herman thing is not on him.

We were used

My thing is - there were so many people on here that wanted us to give Les "one more chance" at the end of last year. I remember it being the majority and being really frustrated about it. Where are all those people now? Is it just hind sight and now everyone has come to the light?

I'm one of the biggest Miles supporters and even I said keeping him was a mistake. Not because he's a shitty coach, but because you already tried to fire him and then changed your mind. You can't run a program like that. You can't have a locker room wondering if one loss is the end, and it was.

No one to blame here except the clowns running the show. Les has been nothing but class during this whole ordeal.

Just the opposite , I'm not saying we are in the dark ages by any means. I'm just saying LSU football isn't what is was with Saban /Good Miles. I'm still very excited for the upcoming seasons , and I hope for the best . I like orgeron but at the same time I feel like he isn't the SEC quality coach that's gonna compete with Nick Saban year in and year out.

It may be....but do you honestly see LSU beating Alabama straight up with a pro style offense ? We have tried and failed 6 times in a row. Honestly LSU escaped by the skin of our teeth in 2011. Were gonna have to try the finesse route now. We cannot beat them on the LOS. I'm just speaking our offense . Defensively,I know Aranda will keep us at the top of the SEC year in and year out.
