I like Hawthorne, but it was hilarious yesterday when he was trying to explain when the fielder caught the ball, then dropped it while taking it out of his glove.
"Uh you know what, nevermind. Moving on."

My biggest problem, and this applies to both announcers, they will sometimes go an entire inning without updating people with the score.
Every little bit I need a "for anyone just joining us the score is 5-2 LSU in the top of the 4th. Lsu has 7 hits and no errors, opponent with 3 hits and one error"
Or at least the score.

How often do you think they should say it?
Just be prepared for the usual subjects to beotch about "repeating the damn score too often".

Did you ever listen to Ferguson? Obviously not, or you wouldn't be defending Hawthorne.
I have a distinctly different memory of Ferguson than you, as I grew up listening to LSU football games with Ferguson.
My brother and I still laugh about some of Ferguson's gaffes to this day, and the one year in his twilight when he was the Saint's play-by-play man was truly brutal.

This
Drives me nuts if I am in and out and trying to figure the score
Sometimes it is not until the entire inning is over before the score is updated

For your information, I am one of the people who gripe about Hawthorne. I listened to Hawthorne's predecessor, John Ferguson, from the time I was a little girl until his retirement Did you ever listen to Ferguson? Obviously not, or you wouldn't be defending Hawthorne. In summary, you and others like you, who use the "you haven't listened to other current announcers because Hawthorne is so much better" argument are full of it. I counter with you obviously never heard the best LSU announcer ever, John Ferguson, or you would be embarrassed to be defending the trainwreck that is Hawthorne.
B.S. Ferguson had his flaws also as all announcer do. "Charles White for a short gain, it's gonna be 2nd down and inches." I was a kid and heard this and my dad and I were laughing so hard I knocked over his Schlitz beer. True story.

"Mike Quintella catches the ball...(excitedly) HE'S RUNNING DOWN THE LINE!"
Turns out is was the yard line marker he was running down and not the sideline - so it was a 3 yard gain and not the long reception his call had seemed to indicate.
By brother and I still laugh about that one.

Good announcers keep a 3 min egg timer in front of them, everytime the sand runs out they give a game reset. Incompetant, boorish, dumb, morons that someone stuck a mike in front of wait till the end of the inning. HMMMMM...do we know anyone like that??

So Hanagriff tried to explain what occurred...
Charles: "now wait, you have to remove the ball from your glove with your hand....
JH: "Doesn't matter, it's not worth it, we're moving on"
CH should have left the booth, because JH squashes him every broadcast.

It doesn't make for a good broadcast when one guy is openly antagonistic towards the other guy and steps on him every time he tries to talk.
But hey, his voice is recognizable, so everyone should love him.

How Doug Moreau has restrained himself from knocking out Hawthorne's teeth in the midst of a football broadcast is beyond me. JH is so condescending to him. You know privately, DM hates him.

I listened to John Ferguson for many years. His deep voice was excellent, but he was a terrible play-by-play announcer. VERY slow in describing the action and I distinctly remember many, many times hearing the crowd react and having to wait many second for Ferguson to actually describe what happened.
