I counter with you obviously never heard the best LSU announcer ever, John Ferguson, or you would be embarrassed to be defending the trainwreck that is Hawthorne.

No one will ever be John Ferguson. Reminds me of those who hate Miles because he isn't Saban.

Hawthorne is ok, he isn't great. He isn't as bad as some think though. I've heard a lot worse, and a lot better.

In summary, you and others like you, who use the "you haven't listened to other current announcers because Hawthorne is so much better" argument are full of it. I counter with you obviously never heard the best LSU announcer ever, John Ferguson, or you would be embarrassed to be defending the trainwreck that is Hawthorne.

I've listened to both and enjoyed it but Hawthorne is easily the better of the two. But in Fergusons defense he didn't have the audio advantages and technology that Hawthorne has to work with. When Ferguson was doing games, I bet the field was only 3/4 as bright as it would be today (for a night game)..

Hawthorne is bad..... But Charlie on the other hand is absolutely horrible, rediculous, sloppy, and any other useless adjective you can use to describe, just a useless announcer, always was and always will be

True dat. Just wish he would retire. He's left a positive indelible impression in LSU sports history and needs to go out soon because his inaccuracies were comical and not a problem, but his age is beginning to affect cognitive thought.

Listen to Hawthorne even when I'm at the game just for comedic effect. Today was great when he referred to the batter's eye as being "triangular" in shape.

I like hawthorne and charlie...actually turn the tv down and turn them on pretty often, just because I like their broadcast....

one thing that does piss me off is when the two of them bicker on the air...during an LSU broadcast is no place for bitch-type disagreements...

John Ferguson was a friend of mine, I miss him. He had a golden voice.

And I like Hawthorne too.

He hit it foul down the left field line. No right field. No left field cuz it went over the 3rd base.
the main problem I have with him calling baseball is when he says popped up ......and after a very long pause ,he will say ....out of play....why not just say popped up heading foul down the right field line all at once.,....drives me nuts.... but all in all I think he does a very good job and loved listening to him call games over the years.....

I wanted to do a comparison of two of their greatest games. Hawthorne doing the Earthquake game and Ferguson doing the 72 Ole miss game. But it wouldn't be fair, I found the ole miss drive but the audio was terrible (he made about 4 mistakes anyway).
But couldn't find the Auburn game to compare and gave up. Technology has come a long way since Ferguson, but I will always remember the 79 game against USC.

Since it was no TV, listened to majority of the game on the radio. Good calling guys.

Hannagriff sounds like Ben Stien after drinking a bottle of Benadryl I would never listen to football on the radio if he was calling.

John Ferguson, from the time I was a little girl until his retirement Did you ever listen to Ferguson? Obviously not, or you wouldn't be defending Hawthorne.

John Ferguson was ok, but Hawthorne is better.
