The best thing brian kelly can do for him and the team at this point: bring in an NFL scout to let these guys know where they are projected and how much money they've lost since the beginning of the year!

Yeah, as I said in a post several days ago, he isn't even the best "Perkins" in the SEC! You want a TRULY dominant and game-changing Perkins. That would be Suntarine Perkins the LB at Ole Miss. That is what I was hoping Harold Perkins would turn out to be. Instead, he is just a guy who some say doesn't give enough effort but undoubtedly is not a complete football player for whatever reason. I still say it mostly his poor football IQ...contrary to him, Whit Weeks has it out the wazoo. And of course, he never became stronger which explains why he misses so many tackles. He simply isn't physical enough to seal the deal.

We needed Whit.

I really believe LSU would have won this game if Whit had played. For example, that run up the middle by Pavia for 20 yards to set up their 1st TD. Do you really think that NO LB would have been in the picture if Whit was in the game. You can't expect the DL to hem in Pavia but if you had Whit Weeks waiting for him say 3 yards past the LOS, the entire dynamic changes. He is fast enough to contain Pavia and really is one of the best tacklers on defense. LSU wouldn't have even missed Perkins in that game...my brother actually wanted him and Pyburn taken out because they were doing squat. Try SOMEONE else...couldn't do worse than those 2 in that game. But Whit would have been a difference maker just like he is in every other game he plays in

Pavia outran him on one play, and even the TV commentator commented on it.

Perkins isn’t slow. They had him biting on everything and hesitating. He always looked out of position and making the wrong read. He gets sucked in and Pavia breaks contain outside. Maybe a lack of effort sometimes, but he is fast enough.

I think he missed weeks. Either felt he has to do more or missed the communication

We could have gotten that fourth down stop at the goal line if it weren’t for Perkins half-assing it and just standing there.

Watched that video that someone put up and it was terrible effort.

Was that not ruled a TD initially? it looked like he broke the goal line but Perkins still needs to give his effort

This. I think Whit tells him his assignment right before the snap. I don't think he understands pre-reads.

Right now, He's a 3rd down player in the NFL and Special Teams player.

He was much better as a Freshman when they told him, "Tackle the man with the ball". Remember (when Perkins was a Freshman) when Lane told the reporter what changed in his offense in the 2nd half - "They put number (Whatever number he was as a freshman) in".

It sounds like they aren't paying him enough to give more than 75%

It’s like that scene in Blue Chips when that player was shaving points. Something clearly was wrong.

I hate even thinking it, but it wouldn’t shock me.

I don't think that was it. I think it was more that Perkins surprised the hell out of teams because they didn't "have a book" on him. I think a good analogy is some baseball pitchers are unhittable the first time through the lineup. Then, after the hitters see his stuff and his tendencies, they expose his weaknesses and start hitting the guy. DCs aren't stupid in football. If a player has a weakness, they will find it and come up with ways to exploit it. Actually, in Perkins case, it was really easy. Arkansas didn't assign a blocker for him. Other teams eventually saw he wasn't strong enough to get through blocks and so made sure he was accounted for at the LOS.

You have good points, but Lane Kiffen (IMO, the best playcaller in College Football) was the one who said his offense couldn't do anything once LSU put in (whatever number Perkins was a freshman).

Lane doesn't need a whole year to come up with something that works, he only needs a series. He basically said, "We didn't have an answer for Perkins".

He was being used differently then and playing him as a WLB is fine but they’re still not using him the way they did in passing situations his freshman year and it’s taken away from the D. The fan criticisms come from wanting those impact plays but not getting them. The problem with that is they blame him for it which doesn’t make sense. He can’t decide to spy the QB on his own, he can’t just rush when and where he wants to.

Once again, Perkins WAS a surprise in the beginning as I stated with the Arkansas game a few years ago. But now, everyone including LSU fans know his weaknesses...not a physical player...poor football instincts...has trouble tackling, etc. Perkins has literally become a liability out there because he is out of the play so many times...many times because he takes himself out of plays with bad reads, bad instincts, etc.
