Has there ever been any shockers in Heisman vote?

I know we’ve had runaway winners, a foregone conclusion, and there’s been years when we expected a really tight vote and nobody had a handle on who was going to win-

But has there ever been a year where everyone was expecting another player to win and someone was a total surprise shocker?

Peyton Manning not winning his Sr year shocked me. Over 3800 yds, 36 Td. Numbers like that stack up in todays game. That was in ‘97. Over 25 years ago.

He broke Barry Sanders all purpose yards record and didn't win. Crazy

While it is kind of wild how that transpired, Derrick Henry had double Mcaffery’s TD’s that season. Mcaffery also had 1,000 of his all purpose yards off kick returns.

Manning/Woodson was the only time I've been surprised.

Way back in 192 this young man named Stovall came in second to Oregon State QB Terry Baker. Stovall was a unanimous All-American this year and won every other award available, yet lost the Heisman by 89 votes to Baker, who had mediocre stats and was considered nothing more than an average player.

IMO, Tua should’ve won it over Kyler

Fournette not even getting an invite because of one game that was not his fault.

yeah, but Woodson had all the hype heading in, so the result wasn't as surprising.

This. This is really when the award lost a lot of its luster for me.

I love what Fournette was able to accomplish at LSU, but he was awful in that Bama game. Held to 31 yards on 19 carries (1.63 YPC). He had one good drive, with an 18 yard run and a 1-yard TD after Bama gave up a fumble on their own 22. All of that was in the 4th quarter with Bama up 30-10. In comparison, Derrick Henry got 69 yards on 10 carries on the next drive, as Alabama was able to run the last 9:18 off the clock without scoring.

That is very different than Daniels having great stats in his three quarters this year while his defense kept their backs to Bama's running QB, Milroe.

Yes, Fournette should have been invited, but he did nothing to beat Bama that year.
