re: Harold Perkins taking snaps on the goal line?

There’s a lot of linebackers and safeties that were beast RBs in high school. That doesn’t mean they are good college RBs.

Remember he did this in the bowl game vs Wisconsin. He played RB in HS. Had 1,100 yards his senior year.
I believe this could have legs at least temporarily. LSU is thin in the RB room if injuries mount. A few yrs ago when we played them in Austin they were down 5 RBs due to injury and it was only the second game of the season and had to impress people into the RB slot.
HP could be on the short list if RBs get banged up. I also am curious who our walk on RBs are and their talent level for that situation.

Let's save his energy for defense. We have capable backs for goal line situations.

NOLA.COM 11-12-22 "...Perkins went through the 20-yard shuttle, a common test used all the way from high schools to the NFL scouting combine, a few times with Cypress Park strength coach Pete Longoria. He consistently completed the drill in 4.1 seconds, which already would have made him the fastest linebacker at the 2022 combine.
Then Perkins lined up one more time. He crouched in the middle of a 10-yard stretch and exploded to one side. Perkins swiped at the line, turned and sprinted in the opposite direction. He touched the other side, turned again and burst back through the middle.
Longoria checked his timer.
3.99
Though timed by hand, it would have made Perkins the second-fastest player at any position in the drill at this year’s combine and one of two to break 4 seconds. Only one player — Sam Houston State cornerback Zyon McCollum, who ran the shuttle in 3.94 seconds — was faster..."

So where’s the love for the running backs we have? Would he be better than Williams or Jackson? He’s not 260 or heavier. Would this be move be to feed his ego?
From a tactical viewpoint, I don’t get it.
For a cameo in a bowl game,….ok I get that. But as a feature?

Right cuz he can’t get injured on defense

I want a RB with the ball, but I love when teams bring in extra line and DTs as full backs.

I think Ju Juan Johnson could get emergency carries. He was a running QB in HS

The role at the goal line is specialized and doesn't necessarily require your "best RB" overall.
Perkins is 6' 1" , 222 lbs and fast, . The weight makes a huge difference on the goal line, especially if you can isolate him on the defensive player, who may be a lb or db .
Of course, Gabe Reliford is 6' 2", weighs 268 and is fast. He is not likely as fast as Perkins, but he is track fast and can deliver a blow. .

He’s gonna take some snaps there this year for sure. Not sure the thought process behind it but that’s what I’ve heard

Unless he went out of his way to ask to do that, I think it's odd since we have people that are presumably better at that on roster.

Would you like to see him utilized in special situations a few times a game? Dude is a monster I don’t see why not.
Ask yourself this….Why? To what end? Yes he is a beast but as runner no more so and probably less than Kaleb Jackson.

Right, Kaleb is 225 lbs and is more nimble.
But Reliford is is 268 lbs, giving little speed away and not much leverage (Reliford is 6'2") .

Why give a linebacker the chance to deliver a hit to his knees? There's a difference between taking a hit a delivering one.

This!
Not worth the risk in my opinion...... Rarely do players coming in for a 'wildcat' make a sustained impact. Once they run the play in a couple of games their effectiveness is usually reduced.

Did you have a stroke. The discussion is about Harold Perkins not Reliford.

Also the risk of a goal line fumble. He won't be getting reps taking hand offs in practice. That type of stuff should be reserved for bowl games only.

Yeah but Roschon Johnson was a QB who ended up being a beast at RB and got drafted in the 4th Rd by the Bears

Good idea to me....even if used as a decoy.
1-2 plays per game.....I see no issues.
