Hard Truths that explain the season

There are some hard truths about this LSU team that I think explain a lot about our season.
We have some legitimate superstars on this roster, but we also have a lot of average to below-average players.
Dylan Jones is a really good running back, but the rest are below average. Seton and Braelin Moore are really good offensive linemen, but the rest of the line is well below average. Harris is a great receiver who consistently gets open, but the others struggle to get separation and drop passes when they do get opportunities. Greene is an outstanding tight end, but there’s a significant drop-off after him.
Defensively, it’s the same story. Bennefield is a great safety, but the rest of the secondary is average at best, outside of pickett, who is a really good corner. We have one or two really good defensive linemen, but the rest are young, inexperienced, and quite frankly, not playing very well.
So what you end up with is a team with some extremely high-end talent mixed with some pretty low-end talent. Throw in a quarterback who can make 10 incredible plays and then one absolutely disastrous decision, and you’ve got a recipe for frustration.
And I think that explains our season perfectly.
When we play teams with average talent, our superstars are good enough to not only win those games and blow them out. But when we face a complete, well-rounded team, they expose our weaknesses. They don’t have to beat our best players. They just have to take advantage of the mismatches elsewhere on the field.
We have enough talent to beat average teams, but not enough quality across the roster to consistently beat really good teams.
It actually makes a lot of sense when you look at it that way. But man, it’s frustrating to watch a team with this much top-end talent struggle because of how big the drop-off is at so many positions.

You forgot Pickett being a great corner. But the point is correct. This isn’t a talented team overall.

“Bennefield is a great safety, but the rest of the secondary is average at best, outside of Woodland, who is a really good corner.”
You ever heard of DJ Pickett (#4)? Our lockdown corner and projected first-round NFL Draft pick? Have a downvote!
Also, EVERY top program is built this way now because of NIL and the transfer portal.

Hard Truths
You bestow “really good” on players kinda easily. Cuz I’m not saying Braelin Moore and Woodland are bad, but I’m not sure they’re much more than average.

Specifically defense? There is plenty of talent to win consistently. Inexperience playing together is what's lacking. When offenses break tendencies our guys get fooled easily. That could be coaching but is more likely just poor reaction to what appears to be different as the play develops. Experience as a unit is the best answer for that.
Drills and practice can only simulate tendencies. I think they do really well with that.

We are going to see how good this team is when we look at the W/L record after all of the games are played.
My prediction: LSU fans will be very disappointed.

Baker has always been overrated and he’s definitely overpaid.

Generally agree with this notion. The offensive line and defensive line get exposed at weak points. Lots of drops from the WR core after Harris and Green. Thomas with a blown coverage. We spent 40 million concentrated on a select few players. It will even out over time.

You forgot the part about having a shitty head coach. He is terrible. I am on record saying that on day one of his reign

Vs Bama this team is beat mentally and so are the coaches! They shite their pants when things got tight Bama executed and LSU shite their pants!
The OL has one true SEC caliber Starter Seaton, Moore consistently gets pushed into the backfield and is not physical. Bama rushed 3-4guys and we’re all over the backfield. Dl has Prince but he was neutralized yesterday and others are young with potential. Then Pickett/Benefield the rest of D is average they got outrun how many times by Russell?
Special Teams is total disaster costs points or field position every game! How do you not have a ST Coach?
RZ play calling is an extension of last year stupid runs up the middle, never go to Green and kick FGs!
It’s a long list of failures yesterday…..

This may be all true or mostly true but my thought would be we could probably do the same with the Bama roster. It's all relative.
in the NIL/Transfer era teams just ain't gonna have the depth they used to. If kids don't play they transfer, they wait their turn much less than they used to.
Bama's defense has been mediocre all year and we score 13 points!!!
Look folks can rationalize these things all they want, and Lane may well win an SEC title next year and all will be fine. But we can still call him out for games this year - it's o.k. for him top be accountable for an inexplicable loss to KY and this really awful performance yessterday - he's the head coach. He's a big boy coaching in the SEC, that comes with the territory, he knows it.

The only superstar I see is a healthy Trey Dez. Prince and #2 are close, but not quite there. There are no Joe Burrows or Chases on this team or even an Andrew Whitworth or Dorsey.

Pj woodland literally kicked into the slot and shut down lotzier brooks. The weakness in the secondary are not the corners its tamarcus Cooley every time we play a team with a pulse. He can’t cover elite athletes. Jhase Thomas will be a good player but he makes some inexperienced mistakes.
We’re missing spears

Dj Pickett is literally the best cb in the country as a true sophomore. He swallowed up Ryan Williams in single coverage all night he’s absolutely a superster

That's really all there is to it. Average to below-average players can play way above their heads are get exposed for who they are.

Solution: Spend 90% of practice time on redzone offense AND defense. Coaching schemes on both are pathetic.

Cooley was shown being trucked and pushed around several times on key plays. He is soft like a lot of these kids who won’t initiate contact or impose their will on the other guy! They want to strip the ball, make stupid hand gestures like they did something and get paid! No form tackling or knocking the shite out of the guy to make him scared! lSU plays scared vs Bama every year! They have Saban/Bama PTSD
