Tons have divested, me among them. It’s just a minor league pro sport. No different than any professional sport. The aura of CFB is long gone and my passion for the sport with it…..

I agree 100%. Also, they may only be there 1 year.

The point is whether you call in nil or revenue sharing, players were getting paid. So were their family. To act like this is new is either being naive or disingenuous. It’s just legal and out in the open now.

First to act like what was happening back then and now is the same is a false equivalency and disingenuous.

Second, I have no issue with NIL. If a player can sell jerseys or autographs or get paid for commercials go for it. But having no structure and a complete Wild West coupled with the unlimited portal just makes it completely ridiculous every year. It’s worse than the NFL. Those guys have contracts. This is basically renegotiating with your current roster every single season.

And I don’t blame the players. I blame the lack of leadership in the sport

Do you work at your job for a paycheck or for the love of the institution?

The difference now is the portal.

Don’t want to sounds like a dick but embrace it or find a hobby on Saturdays. You have a choice. I stopped watching NBA because they hate me as a white male. I just make the decision and embraced it.

Then you are saying you would rather not compete for national championships. So just say that.

Does Indiana come to mind? Their guys are 2/3 stars. It takes a great coach, passion and PRIDE.

Thats what I want. Thats all I ever want. The rest will come.

That’s is why I watch, but do not get upset by who wins or loses.

The team full of guys who were at JMU a few years ago? They are not 2/3 stars who love Indiana.

Anybody who believes this is an amateur sport over the last 30-40 years is deluding themselves. I personally witnessed an LSU coach handing money to an LSU player when I was attending LSU.

This has, for the last half decade, been a feeder league for professional sports and the money is now public instead of under the table.

The only difference is you can’t fit a million dollars inside a McDonalds bag.

Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm just having a hard time cheering for LSU when you know a majority of the players couldn't care less about LSU and are just using LSU for a paycheck.

It’s happening all over the country. At some point fans need to atop tuning in.

Eh. The players have always changed every 3 or 4 years, and they're not coming to my house to hang out and drink beer. Now they just change every year. With rare exceptions, I'm a "root for the uniforms" kind of guy.

LSU is bigger than the coaches and the players wearing those uniforms. Always has been. Always will be.

Become an Army/Air Force/Navy fan. They’re the only true college football teams remaining and usually at least one of them is good.

That’s your problem.

I’m the most excited I’ve been for an LSU team in at least a few years. I don’t agree with the OP. My issue is not the paying of players, but the free transfers in the portal. There should be restrictions. Maybe a 1 time transfer.

The choices are: (1) get paid to play at LSU or (2) get paid to play for the competition and compete against LSU.

Given those are the two choices for anyone on scholarship at LSU, then even if you are old fashioned and dislike the current landscape of college football, you should still get excited for LSU’s success recruiting high school and portal talent.

OP sounds old like me. Remember John Williams from Los Angeles. Dale Brown would tell you Dale Brown was the reason Hot Plate came to Baton Rouge. I’d bet an ant farm against a Franklin that the reason was Ron Abernathy showing up with a duffle bag filled with 20 grand and a house for mama.

People been doing this for 50 years. And now they do it out in the open.

John Williams, Brian Puckett, Harvey Williams, Stanley Roberts, Ben Simmons etc didn’t grow up living and loving LSU.

But I hear ya ole hoss. I don’t recognize the game anymore and it’s a damn mirror reflection of the softy safe space boo hoo of a generation that has arrived. They wanna tweet about it and get on camera and act like self-righteous poons. Money is the beginning game and the end game. Pride and team mean about as much to most of these players as Sunday School means to a stray cat.

It’s gonna be like the NFL. Two years Texas will dominate and then they’ll be 4-8 and A&M will be on top. There will be 6-7 different schools to win the SEC cship in a decade. If you like artificial parity that’s what you’re gonna get.

Very much a poon’s game. Treat it like it’s a Roman Gladiator match but don’t get heart and soul-invested.
