This makes a lot of sense. It’s unfortunate for everyone that he was unable to keep his family struggles from impacting his coaching, but that’s so much easier said than done.
Even something like Brennan breaking his arm was a huge blow too.
LSU football, just like America, was on a great trajectory until the damn China virus. I’ll never forgive that shithole.

After 64 games as LSU coach the Birthday Boy's record was 48-16.
Interim games do not count. So 42-14?
Ed O took over a program loaded with talent. The same couldn’t be said for Nick. He took over a program that had little to no support and built out the infrastructure that carries it to this day.
Using your logic, Miles was better than both of them.

Not a great HC but he’d be a great DL coach and hype man. I’ll take Bo Davis over him though.

Happy birthday swamp king.
Wished he’d worked out for the long haul.
Dude was badass.

He walked out on LSU as a player and coach, while setting the program back 5 years with his behavior off the field. As great as 2019 was, I have nothing good to say about O.

Well she had a highly-publicized health battle during which she almost didn’t make it, and the rumor is she couldn’t kick the pills afterwards :/
Not trying to judge, just sad all the way around. Health problems can wreck people and families.

Architect of the greatest season in LSU history
Posted on 7/27/24 at 3:35 pm to Hurricane2020
You nailed it. I think when he refused to march with the players he sealed his fate. Some of the best players sat out an entire year before they were eligible to turn pro. Stingly, Marshall, Chase, Vincent, come to mind.

This would be funny but for he destroyed the program and we're still to recover 4 years later

To clarify, Chase and Vincent opted out of '20 altogether. Stingley played in '20 and '21 but was injured a lot. Marshall played several games in '20 before opting out.
What sealed Ed's fate was his laziness and immaturity. He was too lazy to interview Aranda's replacement and then tried to shoehorn Pelini and Daronte into his attacking 4-man front. Daronte actually did a good job with the D after Ed was canned and that with mostly 2nd-teamers.
I was never prouder of any LSU coach in any sport in history while watching Ed's post-natty interview - simple folk, don't get out much, just celebrate with a ham sandwich and some boudin. I really wanted the Ed model to work - more than he did apparently. Because he was unwilling to acknowledge how dependent he was on his coordinators.
The state he left the program in was a disgrace.

cute.
take a loooong objective look at him and his career.
he’s a solid assistant under the right boss.
but everywhere he’s been goes on probation shortly afterwards.
his reputation was as dirty as they come in college football.
even shite that wasn’t illegal, was definitely low class (calling to poach Tulane kids after Katrina ; recruiting Joe McKnight to USC while he was employed by Ole Miss ; telling recruits not to show up for classes at tennessee while he was on his way out to USC).
2017 got off to such a bad start his boss had to literally tell him to quit being involved. Then had to sit in meetings to make sure the assistants were running the show instead of O. And by sheer coincidence, the team all of a sudden got better after that happened.
from then through 2019 he let the adults in the room be in charge (because Alleva forced him to). And things went amazing.
Then Woodward made him run his own ship. And with him fully in charge we somehow miraculously started looking like 2005-2007 Ole Miss.
He had no clue what offense he wanted to run. Wanted to switch to the “Joe Brady offense” after spending a season telling us that was E’s offense in 2019.
Didn’t even interview Pelini, etc.
and for some reason, a group of people on this site want to convince the rest that the high point is true O.
the shadiness of O as a recruiter wasn’t really O.
the substance abuse and restraining orders weren’t really O.
the ridiculousness of ripping off his shirt punching himself in the face and challenging his players to fight him wasn’t really O.
the colossal ineptitude at Ole Miss wasn’t his fault, it’s because Ole Miss is shitty (despite damn near every other coach they’ve had at least sniffs some level of success)
September of 2017 wasn’t O’s fault either. I mean he claims to not even know who was starting at RB that game.
the absolute dumpster fires of 2020 and 2021 weren’t his fault.
O doesn’t get the blame for leaving a smoldering heap of a deleted roster behind either.
but the good parts? oh yeah, that was all Ed.
it’s the other 35 years of his career that was a fluke.
2020 and 2021 is who he is.
it’s who he’s always been.
you don’t have that long of a career without even a hint of greatness, then suddenly figure it all out, then suddenly forget it again.

Damn, sounds like Ed fricked your last 3 girlfriends along with your wife.

The same people that hate coach O are the same people that loved the Lester the Molester & Brian "I like to divorce my wife and bang realtors" Kelly eras.
