So, where does the fault lie for hiring Canada in the first place? If all you said is true.

It was a dumb hire. I don't know if it was pushed on Orgeron, but they clearly didn't share the same vision on offense.
I think it revolving around the fact that Coach O was suppose to make a splash higher and put all his faith in Kiffin.

It was documented then, it’s nothing new. LSU has 11, 10, & 9 penalties the first 3 games that season. Cutting down the motion & such helped that immediately.

That's a huge fricking problem and set this team back another year making the change. All the young guys that were progressing had to go learn an entirely different offense again.

I'm pretty sure Orgeron all but said that hire was pushed on him.

As for the "by game 3" comment. We ran a bunch of stuff against State in game 3. None of it worked. Canada ran his offense against State and our defensive line was getting worked. Canada lacked the ability to slow it the frick down and try to keep the defense off the filed. He insisted on trying to fake everybody out by running Etling or faking an Etling run. It was a bad hire from jump.

Exactly. Against BYU and Chatanooga, some of it looked okay. But against speedy SEC defenses, it was strictly high school shite.

You idiots REALLY thought in the first year that things would be great? Canada was a disaster and none of the team bought in to it. He exposed the little qb talent we had to injury, and our OL sucked. Argue away, but the O hire is turning into being a home run..if he wins 10 this year.

He’s talking about the Canada hire numb nuts

The best play Canada had was running Dillon on the fricking jet sweep with Guice and Williams in the backfield. He couldn't fit his offense around the type of talent LSU had.

Zero and the binders got the job, in part, because he promised Lane Kiffin was coming as OC. I am pretty sure that was a head fake despite the fact Kiffin claims it was true. Anyway, Zero was pressured to find another Kiffin type OC that wasn't ground and pound. He hired Canada. I think it was a good hire on paper. You could tell by the Miss St game our O Line was terrible.

I believe with a capable O line it would have been successful. Most forget Canada was Zero's only OC to score points against Bama.

10 wins is the bar for homerun hire with everything we have coming back and an easier schedule?

Cutting out the motions is all that I thought he did. Telling him to cut out 4 wide and QB runs was documented then as well? I honestly don't remember that at all.

Probably true....we couldn't pass protect and the uptempo without being able to convert was keeping the defense out there too long.

He also probably shut down the OL shifting BS.

Doesn't really matter what happened though, Canada wasn't a good fit for LSU and the split needed to happen. CEO probably saw it early on and when we were struggling to run the gimmick crap he put the brakes on it and did what he needed to do to win games with that team and keep his job.

I hope you mean 10 in the regular season, and I would still consider that to be the floor. Three loses in the regular season and a bowl win would be a disappointing outcome with this roster and schedule.

And I'm going to apologize that for that now. That absolutely is not my intention here. If/when it gets to that point I'm going to request that the thread be deleted.

Charles Hannigrif just said on Sports Today in Baton Rouge that there was off-season hype around Matt Canada's offense and that by game 3 Orgeron told him no more 4 wide sets, stop running the quarterback and no more up tempo. Anyone have any insight on this? That's a really serious allegation and if untrue I have a pretty big issue with a BR host radio saying something like that (again if it's not true).

I thought that was pretty common knowledge, to be honest.

He'll be considered a homerun hire if he can get us to the SECCG or Playoffs.
10 wins meant something in the BCS era. 10 wins in the CFB Playoff era doesn't get you shite if you're losing 2-3 games within your conference. The goal is to compete for a conference championship and win 11 or 12 games instead of winning your 10th game in a meaningless bowl game.
