That doesn’t hold water because Schloss took another job while still being in the tourney.

Look no further than Vandy
In last 10 years
5 trips to Omaha
2 titles
3 trips to finals
I’ll take that as being the man
It’s basically the CPM 10 year stretch he had from 2008-2018. That what lsu can and should realistically demand

TCU’s last game was June 6th and he was announced as A&M’s coach in June 9th.
Now in sure a deal was done while he was still coaching TCU but they waited until the season was over to announce. I’m also sure a deal was being worked on with Jay Johnson before he finished at Arizona it’s just he played for a couple more weekends

This wasn’t enough for some LSU fans.

Yes
And we’re not as good as Southern Miss

The poster has written about LSU being the man AGAIN. I take that to mean winning half the national championships as we seemed to during Bertman’s run. That isn’t happening.
But I agree with you that Vandy’s 10 year run would be great, and it is attainable.

I don’t think people understand how far LSU has fallen behind in the SEC.
Failure starts with weakness at the top and LSU is incredibly weak at the top of the athletic department.

Paul left a pitching staff worse than Kennesaw states staff for Jay Johnson
When Paul left we had Marceaux, Hill, and Labas. Johnson went 0-3 in retaining them, including rumblings that he actively ran off Labas.

There was no retaining any of those guys.

ATM athletics seems to have improved without Woodward.
I assume Rob Childress was there for a long time before Woody? Perhaps he was their CPM? Woody probably would have made his own hire there last season as well. Y'all act like we are so far away from what A&M just did.
They literally won 2 more SEC games than LSU. A couple of games go differently and LSU was likely hosting with a deeper run.
I truly can't get over how people are already assuming others would have been a better hire.
Fact is LSU improved its SEC record along with hitting and pitching from a season prior. And that was with worse SP. I believe they will get it sorted out and the future is bright.

LSU is resting on its laurels in baseball. We are the Yankees of the SEC, a name brand that can fall back on past success, but hasn't done anything since 2009. Fan experience wise, the Box is seriously lacking (inside the Box is different, player accommodations are among the best in college baseball). But it's not just LSU and the rest in the SEC. The other programs have spent the past decade or two investing and they are hungry for success. I think if Jay can keep stacking these classes and keep even half the class, LSU will be able to get back among the elite. But right now, we aren't on the level of an elite program.

All the “wait until next year” posters were saying “Omaha or bust” when JJ was hired. Now they’re lying and saying that they knew we didn’t have enough talent from day 1. These same people have been doing this dance for years, that’s why the excuses just roll off the tongue for them. Just because we have a new coach isn’t gonna change the way they make excuses. It’s becoming part of the DNA for a lot of rant baseball “experts.”

Lol. Even the previous staff wasn’t retaining juniors drafted in the top 3 rounds.

That guy is obviously just anti Jay Johnson for whatever reason. There’s no reasoning with that.
As you said those 3 guys were known to be 3 year players from the get go. It’s on Mainieri that there was nobody coming up in the program ready to replace them, but it speaks to the recruiting failures of the previous staff doesn’t it

I agree that it is semi-impossible to be “the man” or “king” of college baseball at this point. Now the model is to be the premier SEC program or “president” for a 4-year term and if you are really good two terms in a row (8 years). Like it or not, since our decade of dominance the South Carolina, Florida (two terms) and Vandy programs have taken their turns in office. Recently, Arkansas and Tennessee have showed signs of sustaining the elite level which spooks us because it’ll be nauseating if Tennessee is this good for the next 3-4 years.
Some only count nattys. Period, end of story. Some demand Omaha every single year as the metric. We may be at he 1 out of 3 years metric now. Worth noting that CPM had us as a national seed like 8 years in a row which, if not “elite”, is pretty damn good in this era of quality baseball. CJJ will have us in Omaha in the next 2 years - book it.

17-13 in that division without a true Ace is actually quite impressive.

The floor for LSU should be super regional in my opinion. Anything below that I would consider an unsuccessful season. This last season was unsuccessful but I do think Jay Johnson is a really good coach and can figure this thing out.
