No rick what they would do is at pre snap make a call and u can see clear as day that safety walking down to the box. Watch out first two drives
I have. Bama did not have to put extra men in the box for the majority of the game. Saban even said as much.

If Miles can't beat Bama in TS this year with the talent he has on hand, he deserves to be heaped with scorn.

Call me crazy for riding again with Miles but I think he will be ready to mix it up this year if needed.
We hear this shite every offseason

Anything less than 1 loss and its time for a change.

Imy watching it now big dog. First two drives safety walked down into the box 80%

Watch the rest of the game. They werent commiting extra all game. On obvious running downs sure.

We tried passing. Harris looked terrible. Losing a game with Fournette getting more touches is better than losing a game with Fournette getting fewer touches. At least we put the ball in our best player's hands. And Bama wasn't shutting us down by overloading the box; they were overpowering us with a normal front 7, meaning lots of Tigers (besides Fournette and Harris) weren't stepping up to the challenge.
Passing more was not the solution to that game.

Where are all these cfb programs that are running huge variations of personnel in packages? There isnt. This sint the nfl. The gap between 1st and 2nd team players are big. You cant just sub in players to throw off defenses. The coaches have 20 hours all week for om the field practice time. You think they have time to practice with multiple personnel for each package
Let me clarify something. When I say same "personnel" i'm not necessarily talking about a specific player but a specific position. You know pro-I 2 tight ends, 1 WR; 3 WR's, 1 RB etc. When LSU goes up to the line in one of the multitude of formations you alluded to earlier, if it's a run formation, there are only one or two plays being run. Against a physically inferior opponent it doesn't matter because, frick you. Against a physical equal or mismatch.....it looks like banging your head against a wall.
The biggest innovation in our running game last year was the success of Gordon & Moore. We had 2 legit, no bull shite, run blockers at TE & FB. It allowed us to stretch things & get LF in space past the LOS. Once LF gets to the second or third yard outside the tackle box...its on. It speaks volumes that our offense couldn't adjust to an injured TE & FB.

We weren't good enough to beat them. Accept it and become good enough.

It speaks volume that you think it was those injuries and not our qbs inability to connect on short and intermediate throws that stifled our offense. Also most teams lose something when they lose their lead blockers.

And not one offensive assistant quoted or even named.

Yeah... I'm sure he made it up.

Just we will allow Harris to win or lose a game if we can't run over a team.
We did that last year - he lost. WTF do you watch during the season?

No way it looked worse than Fournette continuing to run into Bama's Dline. Not possible. That was HORRENDOUS.
At least we scored a TD passing. Tell me again how many TDs we scored on the ground? We literally had NO CHANCE on the ground in that game. NONE. Clearly mismatched.
It's all about changing it up and not being predictable.
After already rushing for 2 yards on the first series.
Here's the next on 2nd down which we barely get the play off in time
LINK
1st down, up the middle, no gain
2nd down is even worse with the run up the middle
9 men in the picture alone
8 men coming for Fournette in the backfield
Oh yeah
3rd down.. mmm a delay of game. We really prepared for this
Guess what happens next. ANOTHER delay of game, but was just going to be a QB sneak.. and would have been a safety. If we are going to play scared, why not just punt on 1st down?
but guess what happens on 3rd and forever
THIS..
Harris puts the ball on the absolute money..
Seriously such a beautiful throw and got us the 1st down..
At least we threw for over 100 yards.. We rushed for what 54?. and that was with a ridiculous amount of attempts

It's the fact that it's the most predictable, unimaginative ground game one can come up with.
Only someone who knows next to nothing about football can make that statement. LSU has a very imaginative running game. All guys like you look at is who got the ball, and where did he run. You'll look at the tailback going off the right guard twice and say we ran the same play, even though once was a zone blocking scheme and the other had the left tackle and guard pulling through the hole. And one was out of a one wide set, and the other was out of three wide. Our running game is extremely deceptive. But our passing game is so ineffective that it allows teams to load up against the run.

Our O-line was god awful at all facets of the game against Bama

quote:First GG paragraph.
LSU’s offensive assistant coaches tried to convince LSU head coach Les Miles not to run right at Alabama’s formidable Front Seven last season.
The rest of the article is completely void of a quote from an LSU offensive assistant coach or even an unnamed source from LSU.
I don't care if Bama's front 15 was the equivalent to the '85 Bears, GG is one of the worst "journalists" in a world of bad "journalism". He might as well just be a GoogleAd.

If you negatigers was one tenth as powerful as you think you are , Coach would of been gone !

See even Miles is even quoted as "we feel what we do running in the first quarter will pay off in the 3rd quarter" or whatever..
but this isn't an inferior team.. the only people getting worn out by this is LSU's offensive line going up against the D.. Sometimes I just loathe Les' philosophy.. It's great against inferior teams.. It's not so great against equally talented teams. He really thought he was going to wear down their D for the 2nd half?
Any ways, yes Harris missed some throws.. including that series to Fournette.. he definitely needs to work on his short game and not always firing the ball when there's an open guy.. but it still seemed more effective to at least try to pass at times when we clearly were not doing anything on the ground in this game. The point is though.. the throw to the rb was open.. it was there.. why not continue stuff like this rather than running into a brick wall. Perhaps you allow your QB to get in a groove. The rb was never going to get in a groove in this guy.. the line was getting too abused.
Also, at least when we did pass we did draw a huge pass interference call and picked up a 1st down that set up the TD pass.
LINK
Fournette gets blown up on 1st and 10 from midfield for yet another loss. not his fault though..
2nd and 12 and what do we do?? pass for a td
LINK
Here's 1st down on the next series..
LINK
Oh look playaction on 1st down and a completion to Malachi Dupre for a 1st!
2nd down ANOTHER THROW and ANOTHER 1ST DOWN! Pass INT!
Next 1st down, Harris QB run on a zone read for another 1st down..
next 1st down, an incompletion but a safe throw.. guy was double covered. 2nd down run for nothing with LF... and then back to obvious pass situation and incompletion.. but I believe we still got a fg from it..
so yeah.. actually we at least got first downs and yardage via the pass.. even if Harris missed some throws.. he was making some really nice connections.
