Sure it does, brooks is saying the staff forced him to practice or he would lose his position. My argument is that it’s not that far fetched of an idea due to what happened in 2010, where Kelly forced a young man to film from an aerial lift in a wind storm with 40+mph gusts.
The Petition specifically alleges he was given the option to sit out practices/games. However, I don't think anyone would find it an unreasonable position for a coach to take that if a player is not healthy enough to practice then he's likely not healthy enough to play. Or, if he's not practicing then their is reason to assume he's not adequately prepared to play in the game...thus requiring someone else to take his place.
What are you thinking Kelly should have done? Let him sit out of practice all week while another player got the reps, but then stick Brooks in the starting lineup on Saturday despite not practicing at all with the hope he can perform?

telling a player that if he misses practice time he may lose his spot in the starting lineup?
then literally every person that has ever coached could be fired for cause.

they’re pretty different situations
I know people like to rag on Kelly but a lift tipping over in freak wind conditions isn’t the same as ignoring medical conditions over the course of months.

really doubt Kelly would allow someone to practice if he knew he had problems.
This day in age with what we know about CTE and head injuries, I seriously doubt they would have pressured him if they remotely thought it was serious. I don't know much about it, I wasn't in the training rooms or medical facilities, so I'm just going on the assumption that the lawyers are doing what lawyers do and sensationalize everything in the media to force a quick settlement.

I'm not a doctor, and have no clue have fast brain tumors can progress, or how repeated forcible contact to the head can affect brain tumors. Can you enlighten me on medulloblastoma so I can not be so dumb?

For negligence on a player? I wouldn’t want it to go that far obviously, but if him continuing to play caused more harm or damage and they can prove that……. That’s a different story.

Vertigo if I remember correctly. Pretty terrible.

Sure, but I'm sure they were trusting the team doctors. If the doctors misdiagnosed him or encouraged him not to get checked out, that could be a problem.

No shot that this gets past the med review panel

Anecdotal evidence from a local Neuro ICU.. I’d say >90% of these pts come out with permanent disabilities, or a complication post op subsequently yields a neurological derangement.
Lasting neuro deficit is a large majority the direct result of the trauma, growth/location of tumor, infarct/hemorrhage and not from an inept surgeon. It of course does happen, think Christopher Duntsch.
quote:
I’ve yet to come across a neurosurgeon that wasn’t eager to cut someone’s head open, but obviously can’t speak to the risk/reward in his case.
I have experienced the direct opposite, but I also work at a major teaching/Trauma center. If it's a non-survivable injury they are not going to bother, if the pt has a slew of comorbidities and is 89, it again will likely not happen. Also with some spinal injuries they will go in to stabilize the vertebrae, such as in a cord transection The surgery itself in not curative, and the neuro deficit if from the injury not the surgery itself but will still require an OR visit.

Well that's pretty dumb to trust a sports doc for a neurological issue.
But the "delay" didn't change anything regardless

They are MDs. What do players do when they get a concussion? Are they not supposed to trust the team doctors? Just like if you go to your PCP with an issue, youexpect them to refer you to the proper specialist, right?

You know this for a fact?

Kelly said last year he had bouts of vertigo and dizziness in fall camp.
If that’s true we’re probably talking maybe a month delay… gonna be hard to say that’s a huge difference.

I can guarantee you the tumor didn’t form in the ~ 40 days between Brooks’ first complaints and his diagnosis.
I can also guarantee you that no trainer, team doctor or even GP is equipped to diagnose a brain tumor based on symptoms that can be attributed to things like dehydration, heat exhaustion, vertigo or any of a dozen other common thing that cause headaches and dizziness.
This kid was dealt a really shitty hand, that being a ticking time bomb that’s likely been there for most of his life. It’s an awful situation, but him reporting symptoms and getting a definitive diagnoses in 40 days is actually pretty remarkable. Most people wait years and have to jump through ridiculous hoops before getting the sand level of treatment.
Apply just a little bit of common sense to the situation and you’d understand how ridiculous you sound.
