If I'm a betting man then this looks like a money grab. I really doubt Kelly would allow someone to practice if he knew he had problems.
I mean he started having problems during fall camp, and it wasn't until 2 games into the season that they sent him to get an MRI. They definitely knew he was having problems.

Entering surgery, Gaynor told Brooks that he likely would be able to eat dinner that very night and that the “worst-case scenario” would be that he would have difficulty swallowing and talking for a few months, a letter to the medical review panel says.
This seems hard to believe. It seems like quite a few people commented after his diagnosis that that type of surgery often has bad outcomes, but the only alternative is essential death.

Malpractice suits usually are pretty tough, no? Or doing you think it being high profile, it's going to be more favorable for the plantiff?

It's a really sad situation, but I honestly hate lawsuits like this. Regardless of what the team did, nothing they did would have been a proximate cause of his injuries caused by brain surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. Furthermore, when you're having a life-saving surgery like this performed, his inevitable state was always going to be a very possible outcome which was I would bet told to him before the surgery happened. Him surviving at all was never even a guarantee. I absolutely empathize with he and his family, but in reality he was dealt a shite hand, and it would have taken a miracle for him to have come out on the other side 100%

Do you know anything about the role of an Athletic Trainer?
They rehab sports injuries. Not diagnose Brain Cancer or recommend neurological referrals.
I am curious about what malpractice he’s claiming the surgeon did during the surgery. It’s very well possible that he would have eventually had neurological issues and problems walking because of the cancer.

When a young man has vertigo jumping right to brain tumor is not the standard of care

Ryan Clark will be on ESPN soon advocating for Kelly to be fired

What kind of problems ? You think they knew he had a brain tumor and told him to fight through it?? Makes no sense what you’re saying.

I read the whole article and I didn’t see anything damning against the coaching staff.
They probably thought he, like most of us, was struggling with the heat acclimation and encouraged him to push through. Idk how anyone could’ve taken his symptoms and jumped straight to cancer.

I feel awful for Greg and his family, and if there was malpractice I hope receives a judgment that helps him, but the truth is that he likely received much better care than the average 20 year old would have received in the same situation. There are no winning outcomes when you have brain cancer. My family lost my 4 year old niece to brain cancer 2 years ago. It is a truly awful disease.

Family/Greg trying to get paid.... sucks but it is what it is.
Neurosurgery has its risks, they were well informed when signing the consents I can promise you.

Symptoms persisted over the next several weeks as the Tigers prepared for the season opener against Florida State in Orlando. Brooks was given the option to not participate in practice but was “simultaneously told by the coaching staff that if he chose to sit out, someone else would take his place, such that he may lose his starting position,” the lawsuit says.
I mean what are the coaches supposed to say? They said he could skip practice if he wasn't feeling well but someone would have to play in his spot (obviously), the opener was less than a month away. And if that replacement performed well it could be difficult to put that guy back on the bench. Sucks but that's just being honest with him, and no one knew he had a brain tumor at the time so it's not really fair to use hindsight with current knowledge that wasn't available at the time to judge the situation.
It's just unfortunate and a shitty situation

Could you explain this, please?
Somebody described his symptoms as consistent with vertigo. I have seen no data suggesting this was wrong of even that his condition warranted additional tests.
When is persisted they tested and found a tumor.
Where and when was the standard of care violated??\

Do sports medicine guys, that are usually PTs and not MDs, typically diagnose a lot of brain cancer?
probably not diagnose it as a tumor, but as being something that needed to be looked into further sooner than they did.

If the things alleged about BK in this lawsuit are true…Not good.
ehhh It seems like the coaching staff had a normal reaction to what is going on. If someone is too sick to practice I wouldn't expect them to magically be ok to play at game time, especially when they thought it was vertigo.

Very sad situation. No doubt about that. The medical staff thought it was vertigo. So I’m sure that’s what the coaches were told. Of course the coaches are going to tell him he needs to practice or he may lose his starting spot. This is nothing new in sports at any level. Putting blame on LSU isn’t fair in my opinion. Just an unfortunate situation all around.

it’s probably true but it is also probably a hard slant in it.
The most favorable interpretation of events for Brooks’s case.
Going to depend on what symptoms he presented for those weeks.
Headaches probably not going to mean negligence
blurred vision or slurred speach and then you’re wondering wtf our trainers were doing.

You're probably right. Any other person would have waited longer to receive a dx, in limbo waiting on a specialist referral because the specialist is booked, etc.

Those DB Coaches are no longer on staff here.
