I agree with Brooks and Hill as the 2 best.

I remember Shawn Burks being a damn good college football linebacker.

I would say Eric Hill because of his size....

George Bevan was also very good in his time!

George Bevan was an All-America LB in 1969 on a great Tiger defense.

Max Fugler was an All-America LB in 1958 on LSU's first national championship team. Cannon, for the record, was a safety on defense.

I'll put Minter's junior season up against anyone's. As for as an LSU career I have to go with B. James and K. Sheppard.

Eric Hill was a freak of nature , however Sancho was the better college linebacker.

Brooks was the best to ever put on a LSU jersey.

Yep, correct me if i'm wrong but I think Al Richardson and Bradie James are the only 2 players in LSU history with 400+ career tackles

As far as I know. They're definitely the top two.

Kevin minter thread got me thinking.I honestly believe linebacker is the one position in recent history that lsu has had some good ones but not many great ones. My top 3:

1) Michael Brooks
2) Eric Hill
3) Bradie James

Honorable mention: Kevin Minter, Warren Capone (for old schoolers).

Eta: added late but worthy additions:

Kelvin Sheppard

On the fence about?:
1) Ali Highsmith
2) Toby Caston
I would add Trev Faulk. Kelvin Sheppard was my favorite. I'll never forget the 2010 Bama game.

Kelvin Sheppard

Remember when we knew him as "the other #11", the kid on special teams?
This is one of the smartest lsu football players I've seen in a looooong time.

quote:

"As long as I've coached this game, I don't know that I've coached a young man smarter than Kelvin Sheppard," said LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis. "He absolutely knows the game inside and out."Chavis said Sheppard, who is coming off a 110-tackle season, does more than most players on the team. "I could walk out today and he could take them and coach them as well as I can," Chavis said. "There's no question about that. He understands the game, and as a coach, that's what you try to get them all to do."

Many played in different eras with different schemes. With that said I can only go back to the 60's. My thoughts as to who were the greatest:

Anderson
Capone
Sancho
Brooks
Minter/Shepard (tie)

Case can be made for several others as well of course but these are the ones that come to mind immediately for me.
