Considering he ran the wrong coverage, I don’t think so. Still unbelievable.

Irrelevant when it comes to how he played defense and executed.

So what if he missed the defensive call? He still had one of the greatest defensive plays ever. And they did practice this defensive play a lot.

I am actually more impressed by this play than say robbing a homer.

There's so much more going on here than timing a jump to rob a homer. I assume he had to fully charge as fast as he could. Then he had to field the ball and immediately toss it home while needing to make the perfect throw. And then the tag was perfect. There was no room for any wasted time. Whereas a homerun rob is just going up to make a catch. Athletic play for sure, but this was some serious precision under incredible circumstances. That's just how I feel. I could change my mind.

I'd imagine it's the best defensive play, but I guess I need to watch the other suggested plays to fully compare. Morgan absolutely saved the game and the season with this play.

This play doesn't get talked about near enough.

If he does not make this catch, Florida wins game 1 and then the title in game 2.

Is this the play you are referring to? That's seems like some old school bias on your part if you think that was a better defensive play. Just my opinion.

He got to the wall and made a great leap to catch the ball. It's an impressive athletic play, but we have seen several of those. Have not seen such a bang bang play like Morgan's where if he doesn't make the play LSU likely loses 1-0. If Wright doesn't catch the ball the game is 2-2?

Again that's a great jump by Wright, but I don't see how you can say it's better overall defensive play. Just my opinion.

i was at that game sitting about 8 rows behinds LSUs dugout.

when the barbier and witten hits those HR's to close the gap, the sounds and noise coming from that dugout was insane!

I thought the game was over off the bat. Awesome catch!

Considering that play ended up deciding the National Championship its up there for the biggest defensive play in college baseball history. Just like the Morris home run offensively.

No other play even needs to be considered and the first play that probably comes to anyone’s mind. That was great instincts by Tre otherwise we don’t win the national title.

The pic in the post right about yours happened in the championship game. Without that catch, there is no Brad Cresse walk off. LSU would have been blown out.

The Ray Wright catch is certainly in the discussion.

Who says Wake Forest beats Florida? They would have been without Rhett Lowder.

Leon Landry made some amazing catches in centerfield back in his day but probably not many will remember them since they didn’t occur in Omaha.

Link?

And the play the Wake Forest third baseman made in the 8th inning of the game they beat us was a great play as well.

Played baseball in college...not a bleacher butt opinion here...

It was definitely a significant play - no doubt about that - but I wouldn't call it "great."

High chopping bunt, big meaty hop, caught straight on, easy short arm toss to home, out by a mile.

He only needed to go to the ground to stop his momentum so he didn't run through the middle of the play. It wasn't a "diving play", although that made it look pretty sexy.

As a baseball play? That's made 99 times out of 100.

But yes, timely and significant...CWS, tie game and all. Midweek game against Nicholls? Just another play.

Because it was in Omaha, and its gravity, Morgan’s play is the right answer…..but Jared Foster’s catch vs A&M is definitely in the top 5. If Foster’s catch was in a Hollywood movie, you swear it was CG magic.

If both games are on the same stage, Foster's is more impressive. While Foster's was still two outs bottom of the 9th with bases loaded... it wasn't in the CWS. Foster's play saved a game. Morgan's play saved a championship. Both great, but one has more of an impact.

You've described the significance of the two perfectly.

I think we l can agree that the LSU plays being mentioned pale in comparison to all of the plays that Nicholls made against us in that midweek game last year.
