It's the Tre Morgan bunt coverage, but my #2?

Jared Foster catch

Still don't know how he caught that.

Jared Foster’s superman catch is still the most amazing and jaw dropping. Was bases loaded, 9th inning, tie game, robbed a line drive single.

There are some plays that are so great that they really can’t be surpassed. Foster’s catch was one of those, so was Trey Morgan’s play. I disagree that Foster’s was better; I’ve just never seen better, only different.

If you add in the importance of the moment Trey Morgan’s play was the greatest defensive play in LSU baseball history, just like Warren Morris’ was the greatest AB.

It was a good, head's up play that literally changed the trajectory of the CWS.

Some of you people are simply unbelievable.

Explain to me how it was more important than Ray Wright robbing a two run homer in the national championship game. A game that we trialed 5-2 in the 8th inning. He saved us at least two runs.

Irrelevant when it comes to how he played defense and executed. So what if he missed the defensive call? He still had one of the greatest defensive plays ever. And they did practice this defensive play a lot. I am actually more impressed by this play than say robbing a homer. There's so much more going on here than timing a jump to rob a homer. I assume he had to fully charge as fast as he could. Then he had to field the ball and immediately toss it home while needing to make the perfect throw. And then the tag was perfect. There was no room for any wasted time. Whereas a homerun rob is just going up to make a catch. Athletic play for sure, but this was some serious precision under incredible circumstances. That's just how I feel. I could change my mind. I'd imagine it's the best defensive play, but I guess I need to watch the other suggested plays to fully compare. Morgan absolutely saved the game and the season with this play.

Just as season saving as Tre's end of the play. Phenomenal.

The pic in the post right about yours happened in the championship game. Without that catch, there is no Brad Cresse walk off. LSU would have been blown out.

The Ray Wright catch is certainly in the discussion.

had 2 runners on at the time so would have been a 3-run bomb.

Considering he ran the wrong coverage, I don’t think so. Still unbelievable.

so Skylar Green's catch against UGA in '03 isn't in discussion for great LSU plays since he ran the wrong route?

It was a tremendous play by Morgan at, obviously, a HUGE moment. But in terms of athletic degree of difficulty it is probably behind some of the great outfield catches mentioned. The bunt took a great hop to Morgan where he never had to break stride to field it. The transfer/throw coupled with the tag was really the best part of the play. And I guess if were are going to nitpick, even if LSU doesn't get the out there they would still have had two more ABs (bottom of 8th and 9th) to try to tie the game. A couple of the other plays mentioned (Foster catch, Pearson catch) were game enders if not made. Wright's catch was a great catch. But it was early in the game (top 3rd of a tie game)

Pearson's catch probably doesn't get as much love at it deserves. Bottom of the 10th in a tie game. He had to play up a bit because Florida had the game winning run on second. He has to be able to charge any time of softly hit ball to make a throw at home. The ball was hit hard. And if ANYONE tells you they didn't think the game was over as soon as it left the bat they are full of shite.

There is really no right answer. You can make a case for all of them...and others.

Ray "Wright Field" still gets my vote. Robbed Stanford of a would be grand slam, if memory serves.

Man, Alt 26: I was thinking the same thing. Morgan's play was truly incredible and I would agree with previous posters that it was the greatest.

However, that outstanding catch by Pearson in a later game in left field surely deserves a mention. It came in extra innings and LSU really needed a win in that game.

Played baseball in college...not a bleacher butt opinion here...

It was definitely a significant play - no doubt about that - but I wouldn't call it "great."

High chopping bunt, big meaty hop, caught straight on, easy short arm toss to home

nothing about that play was routine or easy.

The argument you could make against Morgan's play is that even if he doesn't make it LSU is going to have two more ABs. If Pearson doesn't make that catch the game is over. There's no dispute about that. And given how game 2 went with LSU's makeshift pitching lineup, so was the series

This play was poetry...I've lost count of how many times I've rewatched just this moment from the CWS. I bought a new baseball jersey w CWS patch and this play is the reason it was a Trey Morgan jersey

That one definitely is right up there, but it was in the third inning. If he doesn’t make that play who knows how the game would have played out. Pitching and lineup decisions might have been different. Morgan’s was in the eighth inning.
