“Glad that game happened early in the season - it’ll make us better”

Have been seeing people say this a lot since OM. Is this really true or just something people say to cope?
Trying to think of any recent examples of teams that got meaningfully better after a loss like we had Saturday, vs. being exposed for who they were.
2022 had that ugly loss to FSU and seemed to be getting better but then shite the bed against A&M. 2019 wasn’t perfect against Texas and only improved from there, but they made the big plays to win that game. 2011 was great from the jump but unfortunately saved the bed-shitting for the BCSCG.
Maybe 2018 with sloppy early wins (but still: wins) vs. Miami and Auburn, and the team got better as Burrow started to become BURROW.

I feel like often times you have the opportunity for big growth depending on how you react to getting punched in the mouth and facing adversity. We got punched on the biggest stage with the world watching in the biggest way possible and then nearly came back to send to OT. I would say that bodes well for us having positive growth from how this game went. on the other hand, some teams kind of shut down and pack it in after these moments. Judging how we responded in game I think we will improve and grow as a team.

Getting the emotional game out of the way is a benefit. Now obviously they would have preferred to win but getting that game out of the way early is a positive. But that doesn't mean that the team wins every game moving forward but its not wrong.

Who knows but I would’ve rather lost to another team besides OM. Those bastards are going to rename the walk of champions to the “walk of we beat lane week 3 of 2026”

It’s better to be challenged early rather than late. Win or lose. Helps you learn who you can count on.

Saban, Urban, Kirby, and Dabo have 14 nattys between them. Of those 14, only four are undefeated seasons [Nick ('09, '20*), Kirby ('22), and Dabo ('18)]. It's pretty rare to go undefeated.

Now Lane and the team can finally focus on football with less distractions. Take one game at a time and focus on being 7-1 going into the bye week. This team is more than capable of getting there.

Without thinking longer than 5 seconds I can remember losing to TROY and then a week later going and beating a ranked Florida team in the swamp. And then the week after that beating a ranked Auburn team at home.
You should start following tennis or something.

Very few teams in the playoffs the last few years were undefeated. Sometimes it takes a loss to make the changes needed to improve

This team has a lot of holes, especially O-line and an erratic QB. Defense is not what most thought after the first two games. Aggie will be a struggle.

It's obviously a cope. Winning would have made us "better off", so saying it will make you better with a loss is stupid.

Ohio State lost to a .500 Michigan team and then went on to beat the shite out of everyone they played afterwards enroute to a natty
